YOUCAN is an acronym that stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and
0 n* S4 m/ o( q* }' Z) yAdvocate Non-Violence. YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for the past
* J5 N8 q$ ]" W4 inine years and our mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to
7 L2 A) b) b$ `" l4 Tpeacefully resolve conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities.) J8 {& D* J. W( b$ t
The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada and Government of Albertafunded9 F# D+ B; a, |' k9 J( a5 T6 R
X" u/ A @+ V, ]
project that will bring at-risk youth together into a unique 15 -week groupbased
1 J6 e& n: Q+ Q0 s! jemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”./ d/ u1 ]9 g0 k, l. \' ?4 N
The goal of the VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining
1 `) }3 X8 O$ c0 Zthe skills necessary to bring success into their lives. Verto program will expose) J7 G3 u( L& e' E- V/ I: {& w
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment development,
' I9 C) [6 N1 _personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution, and exposure courses.: Q$ D% J- W: _7 W
Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and wellness, volunteerism,! v0 c; _" b: ]+ j" [8 K! H* m
and leadership courses. Verto youth will be provided with a six-month employment @# \8 R0 w6 g- ~
follow-up once the program is completed.% y$ [: S5 o: P! v T ^
! ]$ S1 N3 P! D5 x3 W: A+ G- cVerto project will run from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the+ B4 [$ m, D8 ^! q+ Z- a3 U
YOUCAN office, located at 11124-130 St. (Westmount Jr. High School) in Edmonton, Alberta.
