T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip ( t8 ?% q/ d! n% h% Z! r: g
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering 6 P+ ]) e1 L- X2 O) d
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on ) N4 }! V# S& s% o- D$ S$ w5 j; N
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, ) T5 q( V* J" P) A/ j9 M9 q
and Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.. ^- K' m: p8 ~! Q9 s6 i7 {5 D

: T! Y' k& a! t; I: e' r {& U, ZEach session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

2 a& |- f; v$ @ Explore personal interests in arts and recreation$ i7 K: [9 W" a+ S3 P, p, o
 Learn how to access community services and programs
% v. q+ m5 T! ?; O3 q( k Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills
) @7 M( I5 u* X Identify personal leadership strengths …8 G) | U7 N# X8 M7 D

Program Schedule:
0 K% V+ F1 J" b+ kRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.2 N, `. m, o; e
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
3 P. H2 O+ [5 a4 k0 j0 l1 g 2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily5 T* U9 T- O p: d2 Q" A
z9 R, i8 d+ ~/ DWho can participate?
# r; ?7 Z2 }! b( ^" F4 fAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.7 z( ]. R$ l- q+ R6 i$ I x1 K
) Q; C! b- k& L; |What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?; P/ l" D. _* W8 m% g
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.

Volunteer’s Duties:7 ^3 w0 z; j, @& T# m" E: P
7 J" R* i$ h4 d+ c3 p
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
$ _7 {3 s8 f+ \- C6 V Facilitate and/or coordinate activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development / A( v2 y4 D5 v( B" a
 Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
: v5 @) x, ?" l( F: i* Y6 y Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
1 }1 Q, u) \. }! V" m4 M/ a Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
9 X8 Y0 R, J1 s8 C: [$ x- E Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
9 G7 ]3 G, u* H! _0 }9 v$ E8 R; E Assist in program planning

Volunteer Commitment:

`. I. N9 ~4 L9 ?- y2 c On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
+ U. ?: k5 r6 P% E5 K9 D) c One time volunteers: minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer* T! s% e9 d/ b

* j# T; s1 Y1 K5 s Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator: H8 x! k# d0 N
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program/ S( f: q( T# V* s- G0 y
 A team player+ y' o' ?6 H! g3 s/ c% m) ?
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision
# K3 O6 `% L" Q Value the building on strengths of children, youth and families
% |$ o2 X; }/ t. R2 p Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
