T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
3 F1 F" `8 ^/ L8 S' @* f; p+ c* t$ OAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
/ `/ _3 B. G6 W$ K1 q0 r1 Dopportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on 2 K: a" P) j7 V, g
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, 8 h! _( \9 H! G; E
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.! v! o  }# H# h6 o( `

/ A6 S7 X8 F5 a& H  K! r+ _What will take place in the sessions?
2 K" W( g% d) n- R/ d! U/ R8 uEach session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

These activities will enable youth to:8 d7 n% F% w8 J% p0 _: a; F
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
! X9 ?  C: u& H Learn how to access community services and programs

6 I/ i; m9 H4 JProgram Schedule:9 E  A# a- M/ s  r2 H
Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
6 r% n! o& t2 A4 J( MSummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily5 r5 w( H2 Y% P( k7 F1 U$ n/ M  t$ J. Z
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily

! h  K0 [$ p2 _5 }; }1 l; aWho can participate?9 q1 `2 a# w: k% E; a. y( m8 [
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.
/ b8 W9 `  ]$ J6 x; |* Z
& i/ D- D/ E) [9 DWhat is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
3 c( g: |, n8 I7 C2 |, v/ ~It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.# E" `, Y- o! z+ S7 }

* V+ U: {4 _7 V( |# N* F
7 C7 H, M# g! z! C* p' P+ |6 \Volunteer’s Duties:

8 d2 i) D1 P$ [/ {6 u Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
" n6 o1 v2 h$ {& p1 y% o Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
4 K3 x1 h- w2 j. N) I Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities. H' k* t, |* A8 @3 S. B- H; m
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
% ?" u9 c+ \$ S3 a' L& f Research activities related to the sessions’ topic( p5 ?7 K. e, C$ T
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
$ b0 s2 l, a! y: Y0 E Assist in program planning
3 n1 {! Q4 g! A6 q/ T Be a role model
/ P% T/ `1 Q1 o2 ~; ^: y4 q; e( r8 h0 z- w, j3 \; Z9 e& {
Volunteer Commitment:2 R  S0 t/ i& f) S" t" j" ]

1 H' U0 j+ s, u On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
* u" K( o1 o# o2 N: C9 ~ One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer6 X! b7 t6 P& w1 H' c1 l
% i* [9 I. I2 t& t* R

, x' u5 V: z; V  y7 e Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
9 c  T4 M$ n# r6 ^. v; ?4 J; ] Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
: q3 q- P# `8 Q7 W9 R A team player! z+ n2 G* N. q. b+ Q: V: I3 [" C' l
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision
) ~! C4 L3 E: g2 f+ C. o8 I Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
, v; m/ j1 t# X# T  y0 T- m Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
: ^% C# L1 [9 E7 f6 _
