T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
2 ]8 l9 ~" @# M  g! QAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering 9 w; g1 j& ~* R, X
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
0 B( b! q1 E4 j; v. l- S' _interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
0 @5 j/ ~2 W% W: c7 Land  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

1 Q1 u( u: ^3 R7 [! L6 e& RWhat will take place in the sessions?
  O8 ]4 B, k* {* v+ cEach session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.5 R+ n  O3 w' e& u2 S. T$ w! `. ]

9 V  _$ Q# M2 h3 m1 l* CThese activities will enable youth to:
& ^" K6 e% X( x- I( a9 y Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
0 c: G, |2 v: N* T8 o Learn how to access community services and programs
: D9 ^' j2 r% \& y# S7 ] Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills
# _* Y, W  x# }0 E6 z1 c% W) c0 e Identify personal leadership strengths …9 s, N: G- Y3 }

, _, L7 i9 @" L& i" ]Program Schedule:
5 z) F) m6 i/ D. Y' SRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.2 r! E' w% B1 s. k: H5 r
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily. N5 R7 E+ `5 O
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily6 N9 v1 Z* x, F, u
0 j8 z# ~8 j) Y  T! d
Who can participate?
6 Z& G# G, g) D6 {7 v: {Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.: e( n$ G9 r: {1 j/ Q5 p/ S# `
5 ~; E  N4 Q: r; ~, l) p4 Q3 [+ ~0 ^
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?; n4 V( d. x( z7 @
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.+ D9 v1 s' Q. `6 f) Y. H8 `8 [
* w% q9 f+ i; g5 G

: [; Q& T- @0 g2 ?. d! {% \Volunteer’s Duties:
( \6 ^: V' M- |$ F/ X
! ]  V6 p  C  g/ D4 G1 v; h/ Y& X Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
( b- w8 _) U/ e7 D7 C7 W: P& ` Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development ( q( N1 y" p& P6 D. M4 O
 Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities4 L6 }' h2 N7 S7 [( ?4 i4 _3 i! z
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions7 }2 K- ^* F2 X1 U3 H8 S9 @
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
2 x! V3 F9 @* O2 o Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
3 \3 d# N! H/ k( u. N( T Assist in program planning& ?- _3 S) V/ X7 d$ }- Q: s; v
 Be a role model
% F$ Y" w+ V: d7 v) Y; c( q5 M# N" r/ |8 k
Volunteer Commitment:
3 n4 y" j4 B" E2 H& H. _9 _5 y3 a
$ I! ?6 {5 m  c( d9 M" _4 J On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
$ X( i# V" v5 f One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
0 e5 D/ L6 p8 W. e1 ?9 B9 a" d, A3 x2 f$ O, |' X3 N
Attitude/Skills Requirements:
9 `! C, ?3 @% Y6 _6 |/ x
# g! o7 u. z7 d  c4 X Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator! q1 u& S$ k3 f; d/ x! u, h  w& H
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
/ R( G2 \" _+ u1 g: f8 D A team player
- e3 v; O& R, B9 ]) l: d Able to work independently with minimum supervision% W2 I5 z; ~' }" [* P: O- h9 i
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
& W3 M6 }! X* T5 C7 T; F Willing to work with youth including youth at risk4 `' ^" L% X: S- N; ?
