T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip * s; r* B- t5 u- _) s5 P+ V
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
. p, J/ O/ b7 R3 _/ o  z' z$ sopportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on 1 z' u! E+ z9 P* a; c
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
' u0 H: V, [- R0 k0 D( |0 f2 Pand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.  Y* N5 y) b. _% o

What will take place in the sessions?" ?! j5 X" J- `1 S* s$ ]
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

. J9 i* q# P9 HThese activities will enable youth to:( ]  b# S2 r& e. t6 [! x
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation8 e; p+ P) v5 I( \
 Learn how to access community services and programs2 O) R8 ^" m) |2 `+ ?6 A
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills

5 _0 L: P, f( X/ b, S, w1 {Program Schedule:9 H. ?9 R5 y. }7 B4 _. F$ l
Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.& B7 E6 c1 G6 N% r. o4 ^/ n$ R5 T
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily# P8 g$ i& L8 }  ?8 n9 g
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
% |; R6 C! }# C* [+ Q; m7 Y# p( a4 G, G" d- g$ }* ?: n
Who can participate?
$ R; ?: T! r5 r  O; DAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.9 X. {9 n# e; P& u5 Y
% X/ h# v; ]( ~2 [! s
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?& c6 v. Q" G' t4 N8 u
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.6 w5 Q# ]7 d1 ?/ p4 P
4 g! d' p' ?2 K- u! m# P3 K
: i" W% i' Z8 W; h; s2 M
Volunteer’s Duties:
& o* |6 {; z6 @: G, K
, ?+ F% Y% D5 s3 v/ t Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies ; S; b* O( H4 w5 F( j- {; ]0 l/ D
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development 0 A7 F: ~' B) |' a4 x; L
 Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities/ H( R. [1 z- q; A5 E9 Y
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions# G5 y; `  D( F: b' k9 _
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic9 i) X0 e& H7 M
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
9 q0 v( Y* E' x. g Assist in program planning
* W  a6 \/ }( ^# a; d4 n2 @) P Be a role model
" S3 V" F6 w5 j- v& d" [$ F3 A. i, f& Z6 }& H
Volunteer Commitment:; T! E6 j1 e. g  E8 B3 i: ^

! |9 i" `) d" ]" U( h- [ On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
6 R6 X1 i1 @! F3 P+ v) x" J" p One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer

. D# _- Z( k6 r, K7 ?( t1 T; b Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator* |' r! _% S% Q: C/ b+ s3 M
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program/ a: H- K3 n5 x2 \  i
 A team player
4 {$ o3 x* J: Q5 u& c Able to work independently with minimum supervision5 g- J' @7 d' a: [' K2 s
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families& C" k- o6 Y' ^! I+ Y+ E
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
