T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip 1 Y1 D6 W- [3 w: e
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
) e$ @$ x$ t5 ^2 Oopportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
1 u* W, A! }& A( {: m3 a2 Ginterpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, : E& D  I2 J' _
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.- O9 V) {# n; P( q

What will take place in the sessions?- G' O* q6 Z4 ~: g" T4 S2 q: U
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

These activities will enable youth to:) z/ @: O& L9 U7 k. O
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation7 c% h3 _) q+ t, ?& s. H: J& f. O
 Learn how to access community services and programs
" q8 \( v% X# A Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills
; a2 w  Q) z" B5 ^3 I; S; r' m" ] Identify personal leadership strengths …3 q6 b# L) M7 p, J
' T6 Y# f8 g5 ]3 C8 T% y5 m# l+ D

Program Schedule:. B$ c; X! x( j0 |
Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
0 x8 M" ?( s- ~* }Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
3 k) \" `8 O5 g$ M/ E  P" o7 x                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily

. s, u3 B2 e' H& C6 b5 {7 O% W; ]Who can participate?
. j7 Q# m/ F# t/ pAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.' ?3 O1 z" U, x" q( A

8 X  i, k1 l# s7 o4 n+ V2 ^What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?5 x- j% \5 ~# n+ d
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.: D, v' c6 A7 p4 m

$ c* E6 E  Y5 D8 I  N" a; ]9 c, OVolunteer’s Duties:
. ^, w4 _" l$ ^, ^  x% ?2 i4 J$ \1 A6 N* a
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies 5 V6 |% Y% Q' L% s6 y3 i4 a( l1 [
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
$ G, M8 a  h. Z. O: G; @ Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
+ ?2 S* _, b; Y! A: b9 K  [ Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
& |! m8 v) W9 U2 e4 D9 @ Research activities related to the sessions’ topic% R8 `2 t) Z& H$ x5 ~. x" v% m5 q
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips/ ^( ^# v2 g. W) l+ g
 Assist in program planning

! x# |& h: H4 P, kVolunteer Commitment:
4 w$ c* ~, E( B* l& h6 ~2 R( Q 8 Z/ j  C9 n& _! Z
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)0 |* U! a8 U) \: z# e) P
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer3 k* }' ], U! X8 i7 d/ f! G  w% O

( I7 \# G2 A) E Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
% o* N! O7 V; O. b Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
$ k/ c* D! x) {4 T& Y A team player
' m' {: M! z  H8 } Able to work independently with minimum supervision9 h; y$ D. ?5 F' r+ Z3 r2 X/ }
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
: v& X6 L4 s0 G* `+ A Willing to work with youth including youth at risk0 d5 b# q9 c9 ~2 H+ i; M
