青少年义工机会

T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
3 w8 \4 s; I- M9 EAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering ( k) j& y6 i# l2 e+ E: c+ l2 E
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
# Q0 Y3 r) j: I1 Ninterpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, / N, X4 i) r/ t7 [" O+ }' A7 n
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.
) R4 D5 T! b! y2 m4 B6 A- M) B4 z  `2 s1 d+ \* B) [
+ r0 x' i) H) @9 v9 l3 ~
What will take place in the sessions?
( e' c+ B/ }$ [0 H' L$ @$ QEach session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.- D& w) c) b& ?9 ?
* G" E$ L! p9 Z' _6 x: H
These activities will enable youth to:- N" }% I9 n& t1 R
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
/ j) B) @8 M- S) y1 g. P Learn how to access community services and programs
1 D2 Q6 X& K, J5 L Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills! F' ^" R& W4 J
 Identify personal leadership strengths …% C9 J9 f0 l0 i& q# x  R( o8 j* E: x

7 U- j$ i* o5 ]9 D* C2 m+ |Program Schedule:; V! N( u) j$ z
Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
* F9 ]; c7 t# z( U9 Q6 U! a; L% r4 W+ Q+ K  zSummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
: s1 w0 G2 {6 I9 l% }; B5 g5 [' @/ `                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily3 }2 h* h' d! J+ d4 j
) c- _6 [* R( q. s( n+ g5 G; y
Who can participate?) V8 n! ?0 L4 o. A1 K% c& F
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.& P- w2 E/ f) E% Z8 c7 h4 j: D
- J1 w  l; \0 \' U
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?# A( |" x. O, Z: p0 f4 O. F, T
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.' L6 J4 c* b, Z7 H, y+ F  a
" E' T& @0 \. ~3 t& W$ D" t; k

9 }( H2 |% w  C' i1 t3 ]4 AVolunteer’s Duties:1 f5 B9 p! x. x; W) t5 K% a* g% S, @

$ k. f/ |# ^8 X* f$ Y Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
# d) e1 z) h8 A+ b) a7 A Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
4 y5 t3 X0 j+ x: W2 {6 s' \6 A Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities4 R. v6 t. n' z0 {
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
+ a  F  H( r8 Y2 I5 B Research activities related to the sessions’ topic/ n/ p: ~  z! e
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
* m* @  {1 F+ V$ l, _ Assist in program planning' j. ]! K6 E$ L- P1 ~' A
 Be a role model1 K! f, _$ G: g& [$ [2 |' y
* r+ H' C4 G( K* _
Volunteer Commitment:
/ H5 w: Y* O' [; N1 ~
3 d+ L- E& C! s On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
# G# w( k; g  h7 p- z/ A2 A One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
% i7 a& ?2 {3 c( M7 R" S1 N3 t% m" Z+ e* T% B
Attitude/Skills Requirements:

 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
3 z0 c% v& I% ^# u- k; I7 [7 `1 a Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program3 \) n6 [- S; S: Z2 R+ {
 A team player, l2 D& f* `$ @3 e+ y" O
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision
7 `7 C% c' d1 V/ n! U Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
6 m7 {, ~1 j1 \, f% J Willing to work with youth including youth at risk) l8 a7 k, [# A4 W4 N; h0 k
