that we cannot support imposing a UBB business model on wholesale Internet

Our government recognizes that the Internet and digital technologies are
9 G0 {5 {( m- ]2 qan increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving
( J. O9 G9 G% o3 ]innovation, commerce and social interaction. As the government develops( B+ i, x0 S0 ~; d6 m
Canada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look( u, D7 q% Z1 W- Q8 s6 @
carefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be
- s) x$ @* b! B2 ~9 h& cguided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and
$ r+ _3 _1 ?+ {investment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing$ N* ]( ~, ~0 {0 o+ B2 n3 t' g
market forces to prevail.

$ l3 ^# I" Q# [: o2 q6 p; X+ uThe Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has Y) m& l" Q, Q7 }9 L" Z
chosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large2 d9 m- S9 x# ?

government will carefully assess the CRTC position to ensure that it is in
0 Z" B, _8 e# F, r+ @9 h# dline with the best interests of Canadian consumers and encourages7 D# \( E5 j0 _
competition among internet service providers. I will be recommending that
2 ^ Y" g' K) S" Y; _4 u! ?any decision counter to these foundational principles be reversed.
