that we cannot support imposing a UBB business model on wholesale Internet5 `+ _" X, {* q0 y9 f1 R( |: |

. x) h" j. ~4 v4 t; tOur government recognizes that the Internet and digital technologies are, D/ O+ i7 L( q( |& `$ h
an increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving8 u4 ?4 ~. z* I( J
innovation, commerce and social interaction. As the government develops
' `# r j' O; N8 r3 _Canada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look
* d+ p+ J. u- ]$ o* x# z! Scarefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be
2 e2 ?8 G& E% | I, M7 {+ Rguided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and6 x! A% \! m% F& Z
investment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing C# `* e2 V& \( \+ }" k( G

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has4 _$ f2 a( I9 A5 z5 G5 `' [4 q: v. i9 h* H
chosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large
; q" n2 Z9 q3 W# o7 Enumber of Canadians. Details of the CRTC consultation are available at

government will carefully assess the CRTC position to ensure that it is in

1 w. I) Q* Z X% [/ zcompetition among internet service providers. I will be recommending that
