% B2 x, O$ ?2 @7 F, `& Cinnovation, commerce and social interaction. As the government develops$ q' ]6 @$ w% k! L7 F
Canada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look3 w$ ?8 {6 n( D4 T0 A1 T% \7 h
carefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be
( `1 k3 o1 \! X/ i: Gguided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and. O/ M% h+ j* S
investment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing, ]! Q- P$ g) t2 ^
market forces to prevail.

/ |0 M4 p' x- a; @& q5 GThe Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has
0 A" }8 c( I8 v2 mchosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large. f+ i. `/ c5 Q6 ?: F
number of Canadians. Details of the CRTC consultation are available at& f2 P) j) T) K4 l

When the CRTC reaches a final decision following its consultations, the* k6 q }2 D" [% o
government will carefully assess the CRTC position to ensure that it is in* B+ q- y0 y. Y( I0 _9 x a
line with the best interests of Canadian consumers and encourages
# k$ _3 ^$ i8 D& ucompetition among internet service providers. I will be recommending that' C C& G4 V2 s& b% X
any decision counter to these foundational principles be reversed.9 h+ A/ F d( b# O$ [0 R8 d
