; v6 C& k) S9 e! ORoles and Functions
2 ]; N0 B/ T- x% n+ Y6 c" B! aThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the( u% w) ]! r# Y+ ^- z8 j
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
; O5 ^. }, }& x8 Goperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
1 ?4 A4 n2 D+ Qthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
4 B2 _0 D& E- \9 B, \" X( Toperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular: w7 G5 \ Q2 [5 @8 [
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is7 d4 k4 r b3 d. v" V+ P1 V3 |% y9 k
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an0 j, P8 M' W/ Q4 E# @0 g0 }5 m
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
* t$ ]' i- x2 o0 N+ q* `+ J# Qstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend, Z- `/ ?- u" V# E" x2 C
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.6 @. d# l' U* r2 T( M9 W$ b* h

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:) T. k% p& N2 u. \" @* ~: j
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
+ O$ }+ ^ L: X. U8 ~" K Oofficers of the Coalition6 z3 b4 u7 e; C8 g8 W" v
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural |* k! M) {+ W2 g: C
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
* Y) q7 f1 N/ t5 h/ O! Uand public institutions
L& `4 E# l% @) A6 X/ R3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
0 R/ M' h! G) l6 i0 ~funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
4 t# {* H0 P& `0 F6 Q6 U( o) m2 ~4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
2 T2 ]& L7 L3 a% _: o( x! Lorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

! E* o4 R& o4 y* p5 q0 ]5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community$ D3 k8 A; R' a( C
leaders
7 e; k X, l% K6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic8 G8 G+ ^( K7 R! W8 m/ z% t
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society; U: w9 u5 o, q
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working8 y+ Z, r! w+ x8 [! H
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically2 c4 {" ]6 B- F1 k- \7 z
diverse backgrounds7 U( S# R6 q F: P& p
6 y' u, f* m+ U+ f5 t) e$ _Administrative responsibilities:! B' L0 a! r: Z1 @& ~
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
- I3 d/ D: y: w/ i) C) U6 Fregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of! p( D& P9 V7 [
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
4 g: v+ {# v$ s, v- l; imembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.- q# H( V, z% d
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the P- f5 K3 k3 q6 u6 a/ r$ {0 H+ M

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board/ A& P$ J/ A) \: k: T- @
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
! Y8 a. ~, n% e* s, g4 wimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
) U1 |& s" p+ Q% {: b: g. roperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.& W! t/ \7 }. R6 l5 B& j$ Y8 G ` Z
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and5 K! |. p9 e. R8 \8 ]
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
, u$ p# S9 z3 Y( q- _2 Y! gbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
G" v7 J# l+ w. v& `' u$ L) i ]participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and, t7 X; I8 I6 F: Q" c$ J! B$ Y
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of. X! b s' J& n1 Q/ \4 D
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial2 \& f2 q, l+ H2 N# U$ W2 b5 r
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
1 q! q6 D! b, p5 ]/ q' L! p# Bmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of* p; y% t6 l8 O. w5 A
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of; q5 f0 _* _7 f% h; z4 _: f$ n
policies already adopted

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the
