Roles and Functions, h) C* q' @% B) c, H# _
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
/ j1 D, x W4 {. R @3 c. }organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
e, |! c3 ?8 A8 qoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
( P" Y4 `( l7 t6 g5 R; x( d# q0 Sthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
+ [6 a7 [% o$ Joperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular7 F% ]3 C2 |' `5 D2 e# v5 B% f
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
1 ?1 q. ?. I9 G d" D+ i% Econducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an4 B' R1 Z" j- F3 E
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires$ \6 T; J$ D7 U
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
; S- l9 ?, A, x _8 x! mall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
( D, \; ]. j" a% H, q+ DThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
$ a9 }5 J# q% s2 n* L1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the8 c0 Q# u- @& V
officers of the Coalition2 m" ~% w; d5 M- S0 b! h( [
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural3 g8 n, Z# E1 Q1 S: w8 g
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
* \1 m0 Q+ p% B+ |: Hand public institutions6 M9 x& W. ~3 U& L3 B+ \" _
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through0 X! K" o$ h# V, r8 ]$ N! J
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives$ N# F, z) R3 D+ b+ P
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
$ Y% n( Z; \$ D7 Z: w0 q1 porganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

' k* F% Q0 a+ h" j* D5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community4 p9 ^9 W0 S4 ? T

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
: w6 R6 J% v" @' R5 yparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society
) e) l1 s2 d$ i: s, Q7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working- f" n! u8 |2 M+ z
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically9 X6 Y+ y1 w4 P( `! B% E9 r

Administrative responsibilities:" v; G' k8 ?. J. g
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its- n6 \1 I n- R( d$ m N& @! J/ N# R
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
$ l$ R b5 K) E, ydirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the2 j' P2 b6 Z1 _2 A3 |* y# w4 A
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.7 f; s& Y$ ]" `: e/ Q
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
5 `4 i' Z9 c/ J) s" nMulticultural Coalition
, o7 ?/ w' W6 m. [: URelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
3 `$ _ b, V1 a* k% D+ m' ZAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to7 @ m& P5 N3 G- M0 x: m( t6 B
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating, K7 f/ h9 i& k. H# t; Z
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.8 i$ U% x! m( Y% I/ r' C
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
# k0 q. T8 ~" n. T& {% Xaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
! N* C5 E, C4 Q5 vbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
3 x2 |1 [. c& O$ [+ _# ]; fparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and1 z. `) P4 t1 t. x1 ~' I
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of; p% C& g+ `2 f
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
# W/ J0 p! x. z) }1 [# ^6 |statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all' @. x+ T( ?2 Z% K
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of$ @/ u4 M' y+ u8 c. y+ B
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of9 a/ @: ~% K2 V" y9 u- X: F! Z
policies already adopted

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
