The Engineers and Technologists Integration Program (ETIP) involves a

• Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (EMCN)8 x/ v: p, g# u
• Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET), and$ O* C& N9 Y. p/ O+ `# l) ?
• Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT).' k( q* z0 b/ Q; t
Beginning in 1995, ETIP:$ r0 U' x3 e/ N* N* X
• supports foreign-educated engineer and engineering technologists, and% m- c8 A6 l, Z( ]- \

an engineer or engineering technologist in Alberta:

Alberta is home to many foreign-educated immigrant engineers. These7 b8 H, |( B Q, U% K+ n7 x0 g
immigrants are highly educated and experienced, yet many may find it7 M2 y$ P5 |) }
difficult to integrate into the Alberta workforce. Some employers may not- K! b4 E$ z+ N6 Q
recognize their international experience or credentials.. V# k0 L( x, d- _8 a# w& l: G
What is the practice?
0 L9 A4 e- l7 H6 [+ B& h2 C2 jIntegrated training offers a blend of occupation-related skills, a work+ |) N+ J$ N3 ] D2 b
experience and competency-based training, such as applied academics or& T) V6 A' u, x9 W2 \
English as a Second Language.

• EMCN recruits for ETIP and has a strong relationship with the

• NAIT delivers engineering technologist education applicable to the

+ O2 m9 i- K2 E( ?' f• ASET provides professional recognition of the qualifications of ETIP

4 J8 C/ W2 M# v9 n% X, CWhat is the evidence of success?% \) p4 x' q. O5 ~ l
As of 2003, more than 80% of ETIP graduates over the past six years have2 X9 \; B0 ^. y$ G
found engineering or engineering technologist employment in Alberta.
# j. l9 R% x7 z3 W- mIn 2004, 46 engineers graduated from the ETIP program. At the time of0 ^* P$ ]* \/ w0 j X9 W% d. P3 H
graduation, almost half had secured employment in the engineering industry,
1 d- ?2 i5 K! E0 O5 D0 wwith over 90% employed at three months post-graduation.3 w4 H; ]2 |9 R. f+ w, m
