. D- s$ p' X. p& b% eThe length of the heat trace is 22 meters. The size of the heat trace is 5/16 inch (WATTS/ m SUPPLIIED is 43.7)( q' x- V3 \ w
The drawing is shown as figure 1. (All data is from the memory. They are not the same as the real drawing, but a little bit different)
4 V1 _. ]) M1 j5 ~0 c8 P8 k/ W) @We can see it is not easy to install the 22 meters heat trace according as figure 1; G% D. }# A0 f7 [9 Y# O

As a normal question we just discuss:+ ^' Q- K- f: w. \" c% G
How do you run these 9.4 meters heat trace (size 5/16 inch) on the 3 inches 1.4 meters pipe ? 4 r0 f. e0 o+ z6 M& O$ E4 @8 K
I call this is JACK LAI Spiral Method 螺旋法
- O. M, z6 z% }, l- I B, AThe outside circumference of the 3 inch pipe is more than 10 inches. See figure 2.7 q" S$ w6 r. V3 ~ M
There are 10 positions to plac the heat trace. They are 0.1,2,3,,,,,9. The distance between each position--heat trace is about one inch.
4 _2 C: F) P4 [Because the pipe is horizontal, position 0 can not be placed. See figure 2/ J% F- p3 h ]5 K& n$ V, E
Because the maximum bend radius of the heat trace is 2 inches( see note 1), position 5 can not be placed. See figure 2. Then the route of the heat trace can be like figure 39 j+ M4 A- [3 J+ V: i/ L
The total heat trace that can be installed here is about , W9 O' q7 P8 }. O$ l) }7 Z
1.4 * 6 + 1 * 2 = 8.6 + 2 =10.8 Meters
: n7 Z0 L1 B8 j, R h3 jSo, the 9.4 meters heat trace can be installed along the 3 inched 1.4 meters pipe without a problem.

1. The minimum bend radius:
" R1 \2 r& C/ Y$ B/ r* n* sBecause the heat trace size here is 5/16, 6 times the outside diameter of the heat trace is( d5 X% z3 @# W8 J5 l! U/ H( M9 T
