participation  in  society,  and  to  create  opportunities  for  the  experiences  and  skills  of
newcomers to strengthen and enrich their life in Canada.

$ J* q: ?2 K  M" G+ |/ H  Primary  purpose:      The  Social Worker works  in  partnership  with  settlement  workers  or
0 N" s: w# p8 V% J2 n! Xcommunity  cultural  brokers  from  New  Canadian  Health  Network  partner  organizations  to
: Z3 i# N" K4 w6 E0 K& G3 m5 }provide supplemental support to newcomers who have complex needs.  
  
3 {* E& Q3 x9 T- d  Nature of Work: The Social Worker will  report  to  the manager of mental health services.  
The position builds working relationships with New Canadian Health Network partners’ staff,
0 O4 f% l% K+ Ynewcomers accessing these services and other institutions and service providers. The Social
% N7 b# R! O# M6 l& n" |) [Worker will  assist  in  case  planning,  conferencing  and  providing  support  and  advocacy  as
needed.    As  required,  the  Social Worker  will  assist  in  accessing  community  supports  for
$ p* F9 u0 {* D4 Cnewcomers  and  their  families.  The  Social  Worker  provides  holistic  and  flexible  initial
assessment  of  life  circumstances,  needs,  goals  and  aspirations  and  adheres  to  the  client-
centered delivery model.

Key Accountability
" g( q% x$ P& }  Understands and adheres to professional ethics related to social work.
8 f3 ]* Y  A3 A0 @6 t  s: V$ g" z  Accesses comprehensive, up-to-date information about services and resources available
& I  B' p" W4 ^5 E2 X  a, hwithin the city of Edmonton and New Canadian Health Network partners.
  Providing holistic information or advocacy services for immigrants and refugees served.
  [6 k* u. i- E+ @, ^8 h/ _; u7 S  Developing of social networks and community supports for newcomer families.
  Provide intake, needs assessment, referral, case plans and action plans to support
newcomers in settling and fully participating in community.
9 R, @: ^( S! V  `: \6 Q; Q  Work in partnership with settlement workers or cultural brokers to provide supplemental
9 K" X) y% p1 ecase plan support for clients who have complex needs.
: D8 B7 b3 e# ^. P8 M  Advocate on newcomers’ behalf to programs, institutions and service providers.
0 A/ _4 _6 s5 N  Treat all clients with dignity and patience in order to listen deeply and give thoughtful

Qualification
( [, a6 j" z) q
0 b+ K* S, `* ]; j  Relevant undergraduate degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and
experience in Social Work or related human service fields.
3 x" S3 `. w; N$ Y2 R* L* L( A0 I" R  Extensive knowledge of community resources, including in depth understanding of family
support needs
  Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications
, j6 ~9 o3 v- m% @- _& j  Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, as is fluency in other languages
  Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate
' I' t4 y" _# I0 f9 c" V' G9 cinsurance coverage for work
; K7 r% r4 V1 D0 a2 n* Y
8 S- w  @% [0 ]' c8 X5 E- k+ aExperience:  Minimum of 3 years experience working in a related field

  Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and strong commitment to providing quality services to
newcomers
9 a6 D0 ?% P1 @7 W2 w: b  Flexibility in terms of scheduling, including evenings and weekends at various locations
7 m* V+ k8 b5 \/ D) n0 S, Q& u  Previous experience in working collaboratively with staff from partner organizations

Skills

Strong English communications skills
Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications
