A baby food recall is underway as a popular Heinz baby cereal may contain elevated levels of a mycotoxin.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Heinz Canada are warning parents about ‘Heinz Mixed Cereal, Stage 2, From 6 Months’. The best before date codes located on the top left hand corner of the package are ‘BB/MA 10 DE 26’ and ‘BB/MA 10 DE 29’.
2 B) M2 x6 P/ Y* B; |# \No illnesses have been reported from consuming the cereal. Heinz Canada says that the cereal may contain elevated levels of Ochratoxin A (OTA). 2 g( Y: G: s8 B4 f0 r* h. z2 \8 N
) B. }: z l/ yIn a news release, CFIA says Ochratoxin A is a mycotoxin produced by fungi that can grow in food such as grains, grapes and coffee beans and has been classified by as a possible human carcinogen.9 j' u, W7 g- v0 x5 ~7 x6 l
$ E0 D8 E* w" ~CFIA says that if a child has consumed the food, there is no need to seek medical attention since the substance is not harmful when eaten as part of a healthy diet over the short term.
