! n8 v0 E G, lThere are no changes in the way Albertans register for publicly-funded health care. However, as announced in the 2008 budget, health premiums have been eliminated as of January 1, 2009.

& o) _/ h7 Y, BPayment and collection of health care premiums owed prior to January 1, 2009 will continue under these guidelines:

1. All Albertans are responsible to pay premiums unless they qualify for premium assistance, government-sponsored income support programs, or are senior citizens.. a. E1 C {- [$ G8 N: u
2. Employers and benefit administrators who register and pay premiums on behalf of their employees will continue to do so.+ ]! u& o, T* ~3 Q/ f4 a$ V
3. Alberta Health and Wellness will continue to pursue collections from those who fail to pay premiums.: s! s1 Y3 x) S1 W+ `4 H* [
4. Contributors to Alberta Blue Cross or other supplementary insurance plans that provide prescription drug, dental, and other extended coverage, will still pay those premiums, as they have not been eliminated./ e$ k9 w, I8 W8 ^- ]; F0 @8 R8 V
5. New Albertans must register for the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan within three months of their arrival. |
