Duties

$ ^. z3 [. Q/ X    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
3 B+ o6 o4 g- ?/ i+ L5 C    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
* U5 Q3 o  X7 P5 `4 W( ]    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators4 G, m+ B( e3 N+ B0 t
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations8 H" N3 \7 R; _2 A' A
    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
$ p5 w, z* _+ b  d8 z    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses/ k8 V: Y: o3 B, b. l
    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth  h: c" F0 E7 a4 _
    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
2 f" I) s* x) E6 ^) L/ R5 p$ Q& V    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment  H0 Z' f1 }5 w" k
    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports# W: ~- l) C% z+ M
    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs0 c+ l2 K! H3 U6 s7 y) m7 I
    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
! z+ Q6 V7 p5 i    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
5 f4 C' s/ v  y" g! H/ B1 w    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools  R) ^! z; g" t7 V0 g

+ e/ _; C' z, @7 T1 k% H! Z. h: v7 e, W9 @$ \' M
    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
  n, V  c; X. Q" T7 N9 s9 D9 }% u    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth! M- ^0 E5 U( U' A" Q- J
    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies; ]  I7 x. h! H8 {
    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs$ u5 p- _* U; y! m# F# d
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community% E- F2 F; V( F; u3 p, a/ R
    * Fundraising skills an asset. V& \$ ?+ O+ \8 i
    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills' \5 o* ?1 m- m9 Y9 S$ \% d0 {: A
    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills4 i7 c# C9 n- w7 {* i! s  ]
    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills2 ^3 C# n8 ?/ j# a: h) |* O, I
    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills$ B+ @  z5 ~% Z
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset0 Q' b: K( Z! ?; w$ E8 [: O7 Y) p1 o# v
