Duties

    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region: X2 I" J: e9 a, r1 M6 i. a
    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
1 m' j6 D8 w+ M, F) F1 @# d; b' r    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
% k# H) d  r0 y# L  p( t  A* K0 W    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
: U% A2 U3 r4 W4 b: v6 |9 X' }    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
, w/ Z# \$ A0 C) ?8 r$ H$ z1 [    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses1 V! k0 K6 W. O7 u% G# {( R) c
    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth& ]' h+ |! L* ^: e$ d2 Y
    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
- v; z8 \1 S; F8 e    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment
% g& D, F0 x6 e; f4 j$ @    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports/ R/ \( @: w1 @5 Z% d' {
    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
3 v: \$ v- |2 o( C. S6 V    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly( A' ~- w* O' v9 H
    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
( [8 s/ M. R$ I) o& u2 }+ J    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

Qualifications
. n7 v" d7 V/ m: O6 c6 ]
" L: l+ P  U; k7 a0 j    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
+ ^& y- C# H  m2 V    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth3 n2 j1 {. s9 w& {' D* y) i- L
    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
  n$ W- f/ |# I4 x    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs& z+ Q" j% u1 c0 v# p
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
3 |8 o8 s4 e; y/ v4 H    * Fundraising skills an asset
0 B" {( Q! B$ q; {7 d4 i    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills. n6 J5 N+ x/ B
    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills
5 Y3 k  T* _9 r+ d/ e  N    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills" i4 b% |$ v) z
    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
/ Q; ~" v  S! O! n8 W    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset0 R+ `2 S3 c8 a  H1 [3 x/ ?6 l
