As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. ; ~3 v# R- I" R: x' M' h7 g
% h# _4 o% S& ~( eReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:
0 |0 l4 G+ H" D4 z# j. o• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment0 s# `! z/ z/ A$ y, _
• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements# [6 J; H- k( e2 t! {
• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
- v2 z: }9 t* v• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
) Y$ F" O/ o( M* O) @2 P• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers
+ R* g: D+ h1 K/ DJob Requirements:
6 W, k( Q Y; {- M5 F, ^7 J0 I• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
$ Q6 X8 ~1 }3 ]2 H$ @4 G• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
8 f3 T/ T3 Y6 r: s• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
m; r5 s6 a3 g% @8 p) Y• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
3 ?9 B, g' y! @: q8 s• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets' ^% g7 R% E7 v @) ^/ g/ ^
• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies4 ]9 A3 n# O8 q1 d/ |
• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST) A5 M$ s, x) \9 z. X5 W$ C
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills M* @1 H/ M9 S j
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

Salary: $27.00 hourly
