This is a temporary position for approximately 11 months.  Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada at the time of their application.

L9 b2 T8 |As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. 1 p' z! e7 D/ k# U; ~
, u/ v+ q* f- L2 z7 d6 z
Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:7 h) e/ c2 @5 x- O+ b- |
•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment4 [8 G0 k! u6 c: K0 j8 |
•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
+ ~- t8 H# k8 l- B•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module- t5 \1 i7 B+ w) g! C. V; f
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's7 g7 r, V, e2 j/ K$ G2 x" v
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers 6 N) H$ z/ z$ f* V9 a' [
Job Requirements:    n; ^5 e6 u* w3 L: m) [
•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline1 `# I" T, q# l6 n# t$ }
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset" w# g3 E2 B5 ^" f4 ?. _  g
•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
/ z; C0 W. s- E+ h& y•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
. o; `$ R( V. i0 }. W/ e& e•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets: e2 U5 W# u0 b3 m- E
•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
7 s# y* B7 f+ q& k; o3 I•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST2 ]9 Y! W0 v4 i3 W8 J
•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills
