The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months. ) T5 V8 h. U- L' p3 D' W

. M5 o4 q! ^* V8 b4 H- r1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
. b, o! W" q9 Z( Q• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
4 p/ |$ L: I! Q/ y" J• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
+ C! \6 O' A' P3 h/ E8 y1 |$ L• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
' C5 \5 C$ }) o; O• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
4 n9 A* `* }, r @• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
1 Q/ i1 U+ f% d$ s% u3 n• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

2 _: Z% v1 k4 s1 W• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s ; {; D% d' A1 C9 [# ]
" j7 ^" U8 _8 I* UCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required. : [) \9 V; Z6 k2 L7 [; l; ?- b9 c
