' t9 V+ r4 D# M) |The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

Responsibilities include:

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
" @- a; K+ U3 v' }7 G! K: V5 g• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
9 }  w" o( _% y0 k4 l2 Z& o9 n% p• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
* o2 r7 [* K, A4 J0 ~• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

. G' i5 I8 q" X% ]7 d2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

3. Tracking System
• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

: b+ B; O8 M6 gCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
