The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months. ) r! Y; A* R. b

Responsibilities include:) b) F, d- ?6 W( p

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
# _" F9 z6 e" j" Z" i+ X: ~/ `• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
% w* ?! r0 n! o8 u2 k• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
5 S; U }& v# r; |• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored5 T7 X+ W/ y7 g% Q) v
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
; r/ I' h# U! w' f. x• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.0 h9 i r' K- s t" S7 ~( T _
0 L. P6 J6 ]5 R, o' Z" E3 S2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
1 e$ u j' A+ K) r• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

3. Tracking System
. P& T( \8 W- ^- R• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s 5 [1 b. v* i) z7 a7 N' l3 [, M/ \

Candidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
