The VERTO Project
  N5 B" [3 O, f0 a- tThe YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
3 H4 |% Z4 A5 s2 }; fbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
3 G2 N7 q+ P4 f/ c, |2 i5 o2 }6 bstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
8 z" m% c# i- w1 Q9 lmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
& P5 H3 t+ o: j% I( kconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
( `3 k& d4 W- h  h/ r0 k3 m5 sVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
4 m5 ]! B9 O, M7 \" R: y. xnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
, D& D/ Z+ e% f/ Wparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
) V/ T" x) B9 S) J& a* ndevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
) s# e. v. Y  K' ~The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
  Z6 x+ h8 z  \* `' gThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
' L2 D6 `( ?- T* g# U; Aextension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be
accepted until April 25th, 2008. Only those candidates selected for an

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
" S) D+ b9 Z' S: ^) w1 D. w) b% {willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
; g8 V, [& f) H9 r3 A: H$ nbeing realistic to each youth participant
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
8 s- k* Z8 P9 Y+ {( G2 ^8 H9 fyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
each participant
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
3 Y$ _1 Q' }8 c; v, Qcover letters and resumes etc.
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the

• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
; M& T! [& p2 ]- `  F- Cthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
is being fulfilled for each youth
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
+ c% q$ |4 W3 ]& D8 ~9 ~+ drelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
• Other tasks as they arise within the position

 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
. M  l: c8 m5 ^; V' p A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
