The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will2 n$ _' f7 M5 R j8 @
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
2 r3 }; \8 D6 X# |+ k. P- O$ Demployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day+ X/ {1 r [& V F" n
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
1 W$ r1 }+ j; d2 t7 v% ~stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.- o8 U6 N7 q6 p% n" U$ R' z
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
( u5 m, a) T# K' v smission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve/ u' U# g! X0 H" |' [7 G
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
* Q& M# t. B* d2 {! x0 `. cVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
2 ^4 \# D% D& [2 w% y$ onecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
( Z! ~8 h6 C* q/ wyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose, B$ }: s2 C; v6 @
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment4 i: n1 s" y# s* x. g7 C
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and6 \" t6 [3 N: o( D$ A8 D+ r
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
* ?( N# d5 G' c& Y: |( V; P5 |5 Hwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a2 p {6 o, p' d) F2 ~1 W/ F$ u* A
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed." O8 M! d: o6 q
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central. E$ Z& ?. L* h, l+ w5 o
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.# ]; s8 g" _, c* j7 D/ y
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

* o8 L7 N; ?- @Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)% k4 U" [) ?2 X3 x! a# |. r! ~
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the$ ?6 L7 P }2 d: [/ K! h
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
$ a; X; |& I" }1 Mwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities5 J: r% a- E$ |. x+ F/ ]5 l
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as/ B+ i9 Q4 f/ A
being realistic to each youth participant
3 d; G2 g7 A6 [% Z1 N• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the) t) U7 O7 h1 j# x
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
% E- s4 o0 l0 Q5 ?) [, s" meach participant; |& W S: R4 V* Y6 a9 _0 q
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
4 M; ^9 \# J- u2 Wcover letters and resumes etc.. k2 ?# [# a( C- U2 z
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
# g6 b! J3 N8 z4 B9 V+ @4 Vexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the5 R' q6 v' N% Q* N+ N$ F
placements, ~) ]$ f1 I s# W2 u
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
; ` p* a+ m5 k @- nthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
' q8 V- K* ^$ e e a/ K2 b• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach

• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
