The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will" c8 Z9 }! @% t8 \
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based4 u# ?( M6 A8 z" {: Y! v
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day f, ]# e3 G. T$ g- M4 S& C" s
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that. Q6 Q d! g; W$ K! x' Q
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.. F, l9 [ v e& O$ B
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our4 ] [/ N9 D5 V% m( x9 r
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
' a( L) q. h( Y+ T/ }" `conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
' g, |* L6 C! ^- D GVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills# Q) Q, o) n. ^ g% D6 V1 u& U
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve7 V$ U7 v/ M U% x/ Y7 |
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose) m: c V* R: N* N$ Y0 M
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
( H$ ]+ }5 N4 S+ e5 A) vdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and) S9 d5 Z7 N3 A4 _/ @
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
9 O. }4 g9 E& }7 c; v, Fwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a6 Z% |/ P6 \$ i% m
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
- ^, \- d; k% F' U) h: ZThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central2 O F t. t' u9 y% O
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.' Q: w; S% N* I$ o \
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of d# p0 r; N* f1 q, N, M$ |

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)8 t7 ^8 b, L$ ?: M5 @1 B
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
$ a4 G3 i1 }0 } o/ _community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
, o/ B$ s# W0 C; @willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities! e: x# x; n1 H% f% B
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
, m% W* @( N% a( R" K2 B7 k2 Tbeing realistic to each youth participant: X7 {8 `2 Z, o; S4 y7 A
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the" A l9 R. E5 Z0 e, p
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to- G* D- i% n. n O
each participant
9 Q, v( Q' b0 j4 a( [5 I4 F• Assist youth with employment development including the development of/ |/ a* H- Q( p2 B: i0 s
cover letters and resumes etc.$ T* m0 L$ E4 M. X2 t" u5 j
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
% t7 Y5 D N6 T1 L3 H' Z& ]8 S1 Dexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the3 i1 j+ X( C8 E. k- @: C) |# r, e
placements$ B' g# {* K D( n4 V' h' U
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
$ ^; Z( f; w8 d& I \the process, and supporting the youth where needed
8 e+ P' ?- I4 l+ M- F7 H• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach9 X8 M. O" f. I$ @; V
is being fulfilled for each youth% I/ R- \9 D6 J% P+ J
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
7 w8 T5 [. F. O) L! u; urelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project6 b. N; C2 U# d9 ^
• Other tasks as they arise within the position
+ t0 F# X. w5 U+ k2 ]6 E" j- D. [Experience Required: Employment Developer5 b, X z& g% _4 _2 C3 G
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
8 a" j$ J$ x$ g2 U* o* p A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth

at risk as it pertains to employment
V8 u& t( J7 E' d Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment

 Ability to motivate youth
