The VERTO Project
1 n0 p: i |0 C( CThe YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
7 d# x; X+ S% d0 l. i2 mbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
* C& r+ [! v4 u$ K: M7 jemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day, T0 |5 X* N3 g+ s
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that8 R' q& o6 H% b
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.4 W6 `# q9 K) u6 g& |
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
. i) l3 m+ l+ H$ [+ q2 ~mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
, x! g. B% ?, fconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
& R+ j; C- z8 ?+ a# U9 F2 s( MVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
% B$ I/ Z* K! K" W& l) e# X$ qnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
) v' m, X3 E; L( J7 V* \youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
K1 m+ L9 h) Q2 N1 R! Tparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment0 p4 K) c' b, N( t
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and) h) p) r, a; S- O" H/ F
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
3 R: ^. _3 s' E4 s. Pwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
: Y/ j' A$ C$ ]4 v9 ~5 U9 X: A7 @, x6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
" h# O7 j7 C% [9 Y6 r$ UThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
9 o% ~" p( P9 \! {8 ]YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
$ q5 r, F2 e4 l' x$ U% Z. Q) ZThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
6 |& C/ X3 G7 A9 C! Q: fextension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
& ?" @* L3 P* O/ K. {• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the# A+ I5 u: i+ Z1 t& n
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
2 _1 w/ v. N- w' Fwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities: t& ^7 H" s' e
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as$ U& y/ n$ h% R1 M/ s/ ]: n
being realistic to each youth participant m5 v3 U2 x% a6 i+ v
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the# ]% ~2 N1 N3 o7 b8 Z
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to, c; R# c. y3 {6 }* f
each participant
0 D6 K3 v3 I) p- e8 \• Assist youth with employment development including the development of9 |; A* a- Q# Z* n* A
cover letters and resumes etc.
0 o: w4 T1 \* ]) `. C: @( L• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
x4 A3 `9 e( [5 r" I/ Pexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the0 T% Z- [+ `/ I
placements
0 v8 V, u6 M+ S* v3 _• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating# s4 }( I4 {, |6 {5 g" @3 `
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
# T! c) l7 k' C• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach W! L7 Q8 r2 W# Z8 e4 J# c
is being fulfilled for each youth6 O$ s2 n9 X' c. `: X. ]
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are4 E; O1 }4 }' l) d; z
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
% b- q' g* s5 H7 q, g A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
