Good news. U of A plan to stop increase tuition for students who are recently in U of A. However, they will increase tuition the current students who will go to U of A next year. Sounds fair. I deeply agree.

! D; D5 x. T# n4 W& B* jYesterday, the Academic Planning Committee of the General Faculties 0 K1 `/ q% [3 x3 S, X9 g' y
Council met to discuss the tuition proposals. I have both good and bad $ @. z! @4 P: s+ x" c1 S% P9 {
news to report from that meeting. \& y/ @+ L- Y% M
m. v; |* D) L* @2 |" K bFirst, the good news. The committee decided to grandfather all current 1 i: {5 O7 O/ ~2 _# b: f, }
undergraduate international students from the increase to the 6 B7 Z; ]7 \6 y3 K
differential fee. This means that next year, all current international x7 T3 b/ Z/ {, q# M
students will pay the same tuition as this year, plus whatever base , y% t5 r- J5 ]! m
tuition increase that all students face (the proposal calls for 5.75%).
0 ?) u! h. S+ b) L7 ~* i/ I8 WAlso, the administration decided to withdraw their motion to increase
O2 o; q) ?( x4 f5 R" Uthe differential for international graduate students.) p" m+ i6 v9 p- V* h
; K( L1 n- ~7 ~* ~: g6 _; tNow, the bad news. The motion that the committee approved called for an
: c) x& X( l' Cincrease in the international undergraduate differential from 157% to
7 S& j7 s: r; p2 O0 r$ U3 j' Y220%. This will mean that all new international undergraduate students
8 }- U6 r2 D& h. K3 a9 N, Jwill pay $15,353.89 (assuming that the 5.75% increase happens). At
. V) m+ G. ]# a7 U5 I) Ileast, all new students will know what the U of A is charging in 5 I0 d' L/ O! r6 A
tuition before they come and they will not face any large unexpected 5 J. w; h$ L. ^* ^& A3 _3 A
increases once they are here.

have sent me emails, come out to consultations, and opposed this 8 q( D: z, C8 u' C, G5 Z* E: e }
increase. I couldn't have got the increase grandfathered without your * Z) {# n1 N! [! b/ R
