, s! O; M. c# R( g6 R  O" eEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.

•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

•        Adhere to schedules.
0 U+ J# d, Y# B% _•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.

•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
, t- F* S/ W* Q" Z& ?) }•        Provide excellent customer service.

: O2 s# j- H: x+ z/ X2 X5 ~JOB REQUIREMENTS:
; a* w& D! E! m( p) x( H8 m•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
/ H& {, Q1 J  ?4 F  ~•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
% S% |' t5 g, g5 A1 n5 Pto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
7 a) ^( H; q4 n6 u1 ^2 b2 f9 [1 T•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

8 Z4 C8 A. e' BTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
