Do you have a strong customer service background with well developed people-skills?  Do you enjoy driving and the challenges of dealing with the public in a diverse work environment?  If you answer yes, and you can meet the requirements below, we’re interested in you.
* o, @  ]/ ~6 n0 G$ k6 zEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.: e: l. m) U" h8 u7 R3 L) |( C

FUNCTIONS:
" J* Q% W( w% R2 X, N•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.% F" ]8 Z! \8 z: \  Y% k
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
! T! u% x) w; D; p+ B; F8 }•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
: l7 h" M/ o* r8 a! @; }6 \•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
' x/ J+ `' Q( V6 ], z4 }and traffic conditions.
  R7 B9 @# b. c- I•        Adhere to schedules.8 K. M) @: p7 |# a/ x! [0 e! C
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
/ J# p6 Y) K8 `$ k; H+ E) y5 z•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.

•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
1 s2 i* S# |% B! M7 x" z: J•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 2 q1 E! ?* H' \1 S0 |
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

; S3 I3 I0 a+ F; G# }/ o: P, @9 M•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
) r; B5 s1 U5 H- ~) ~•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.& L: a+ ^& a1 o0 ^9 {- U  Z  S4 r
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
& |6 {2 Z# c; w' }# F/ C7 z•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
. S; {# H2 v  W2 X  ?/ u" Yshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. $ x; X* ~  V! z; j5 m6 y
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
0 x" x; ], g0 q  X$ e) O2 Tvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training)." L0 D# f8 @  b' ?# t6 a9 `4 k
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.

HOURS OF WORK:  r2 m/ A; X# ^, _, B3 ]" l
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week $ k- E/ |5 [% ~) C7 A' j/ `
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly/ C. N# M0 q3 Z$ W& ^$ J/ u
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly+ S- {6 s: k, }! m$ j
4 n& s* P" k5 m3 {
SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004 7 _% l+ @3 ]+ {! {, y  F0 _" z( s
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
, M+ _9 J9 }0 G; j+ p. EPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
$ z/ H5 _) L% F3 C( |; N3 ^5 g8 VThe rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
