% A6 M8 g0 X5 M9 q- H2 H7 O7 j, LEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
# Q& [4 }1 t0 m t6 Q• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
& m0 G3 y" j; _( S1 B0 s9 f• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
3 l/ ?3 U/ f" p) L: d• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather ? @% _" W$ a4 P9 M
and traffic conditions.

. f( O8 u& h; m4 M• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
3 P$ q* x( u2 F. l/ c• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.% Q3 |7 ?8 q, `
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 2 z* {+ _0 o0 Y( W- ]* T
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger # h8 b; K1 M N

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
" E s' O' _, X) S2 x( h' }( D• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
. j8 B0 D4 e9 v3 p5 ~2 W+ }• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.; q% U" H1 y( T5 x
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
0 a0 B9 L v# ]: O! h i* g. X# f. pshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
" V# O6 M# \8 I1 B7 E' l6 \' A• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
% u9 J: W# Q: l6 ~* mvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
