; f* B5 A$ }% o0 i5 t% O0 XEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

1 ~% L. l+ ?8 g* k; \FUNCTIONS:
* \7 X* x6 [4 v* K, X•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
/ L; N. K: F7 z, K3 i  S•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
) m( F1 @( n; ?•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

# n) E+ K* I/ O# k0 T2 i9 D! l•        Adhere to schedules.
& E6 @' W7 c/ b' c) f+ n•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* e. _& \8 Z1 D5 Y3 {# C•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
$ h  Z. ^% l( _( I4 }•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
! F, y& y# m" H) r8 @7 F" {to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
8 x" w& D7 Q$ c8 N6 G, t, s6 Tof the day.
. d! A7 E) m5 u2 H" }& [0 C•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
9 B1 l% p" r9 e- E+ f( r•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
9 g( U7 i2 {5 t& \' ~•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1 D: l2 O" n# a8 r5 X1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

8 _& l$ B, C( {  T0 x6 _Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
