1 [2 Z' c6 i  g7 ?Do you have a strong customer service background with well developed people-skills?  Do you enjoy driving and the challenges of dealing with the public in a diverse work environment?  If you answer yes, and you can meet the requirements below, we’re interested in you.
% A6 M8 g0 X5 M9 q- H2 H7 O7 j, LEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
# Q& [4 }1 t0 m  t6 Q•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
& m0 G3 y" j; _( S1 B0 s9 f•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
3 l/ ?3 U/ f" p) L: d•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather   ?  @% _" W$ a4 P9 M
and traffic conditions.
8 `$ }+ Z* I4 l# A% m•        Adhere to schedules.
. f( O8 u& h; m4 M•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
) R( u3 {7 @0 a6 ?% V8 Q•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.2 `$ L* ~0 N5 I0 X# O7 d) s
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.4 w4 C0 G1 ^7 t4 B& b7 w, `: _6 c
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
3 P$ q* x( u2 F. l/ c•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.% Q3 |7 ?8 q, `
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 2 z* {+ _0 o0 Y( W- ]* T
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger # h8 b; K1 M  N
of the day.5 C6 w  R1 K* K  h9 H
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
" E  s' O' _, X) S2 x( h' }( D•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
. j8 B0 D4 e9 v3 p5 ~2 W+ }•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.; q% U" H1 y( T5 x
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
0 a0 B9 L  v# ]: O! h  i* g. X# f. pshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
" V# O6 M# \8 I1 B7 E' l6 \' A•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
% u9 J: W# Q: l6 ~* mvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
9 x4 L! ^0 h( f) ]+ b( U4 ?$ k•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
' w5 H" r' U1 f, ?( A$ z•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week 6 S8 |4 l* e" `4 F# Q! k$ c+ G
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
; S* S. f! P1 ?; sThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly: H- I: C2 Z1 l, }- f% m8 x

2 g# E' ~% o' r3 G% F" TSALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
  w( M# c" W- H) n8 g* uTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
4 |; e# q. n, a$ v% pPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
