Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
5 l2 L' ?) T% y& ~3 k0 m•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
( y. W- g% f7 v( @- ]/ @2 Y•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
. Z! N$ d4 r) D; k  ]. [- ~•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.

•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
7 a& X1 k- V) b) D: |2 C•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
/ d' N% l$ |0 I: Q+ |8 v1 fto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
. w+ l" X# O2 }$ o•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
0 f5 Y' p8 n5 N& M) N" ?6 E1 Nshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
9 c; b" Z5 Q+ B! y5 d•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
6 \' L0 C% `2 V' [8 C/ `( xvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
7 ~, M; x0 d2 |# J4 O9 u•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1 b8 R% V' x; w) u8 [1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
: K/ e0 G. A( H1 V0 WPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
