Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.' R) N* @- L' j
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.* Q+ \1 Z2 l6 i: w
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
; U/ c7 j" E4 r( ^0 A( V. f2 g; m5 b•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather / W( p( Y: \7 R6 ~+ o" q

•        Adhere to schedules.
7 Q6 }+ R; H' t6 g( a$ M•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. ! n$ `' ~- h% C# f2 w0 [
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.9 {" i" q8 P4 q: m/ H+ |- k
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
+ I; o7 K% \1 R: ^•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
# P' X/ d- L1 {/ q' ?* L$ p8 Lto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger 0 t; [4 q& z3 q6 I9 b3 d  x: l
of the day.) K4 r; I+ I" B: t8 E' M
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
! t" V$ _: h) m! n•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.' H8 ]2 v/ B) n
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
  v/ v" T6 i. `2 ]- G•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) ( T- v9 m" C" u" d+ D2 @9 \2 G: H
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. % }% P  I% h* ?& @* S: y
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill 7 N: }; n% ?$ f0 T
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).( P$ V# d: I/ ], K5 _9 {! M' X
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.& n3 w: ^: K( \& S& R
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:! I2 J5 j" g; R! Y
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
, }7 b. U: q8 q2 a5 y1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly+ _4 Z  r( E" I. `8 i, j, j4 }$ A
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
