0 n% ^8 e; d( i# o- }JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
' _' L0 i) S9 N, f% hthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
* u% O8 Y$ B! b5 @3 m+ u5 i2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
" A' J& ^1 H3 ~" s' KCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
year following their appointment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

! d0 o' M$ W8 A1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
/ s4 v" A5 F7 j& [& R
# W! c' V& [7 F/ m2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

% M" r) h; {6 B1 A) d  m: n; i4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
# H8 o5 h* d. P1 m" l6 B" s) tadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

6 |7 ~0 \6 d7 q5 _; I/ \5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
referenda.

  M- }. E3 i4 y& k, V6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
% L6 L; |, @- N% vparties.

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
referendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
8 a% Y$ H; ~$ CBylaw 2000.

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
0 [# U" c0 e7 q' a8 x! Ffrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

' o; x$ f0 |& E/ M. K3 o11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
the course of an election/referendum.

% K& K. O8 |! }1 e8 B12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
process is in place.

/ H4 K& {- a9 K: g13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
of activities and recommendations.

) y* O+ |8 o( e0 t8 _) _( l14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
of campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  
Administration Committee.

! m! X; H; N( {4 j: [$ JQUALIFICATIONS:

1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
7 ~) \% m/ }; {* `3 r0 p, @# eUnion member.

2) Must have some experience in student elections.

3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
$ v4 F! j, ?" M( i0 D1 @# Z# F' oany of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
0 _. S7 @+ z$ [. p) `with the Students' Union.

- X$ C1 P5 t# r  T4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.
! n5 L, x  E" a1 F5 l0 T8 L
5) Excellent project management skills are required.

% W! y$ c+ G) Y7 w& {" F0 L5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
staff, students and the general public.
