　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

　　Both sides of the Great Wall
! S( {& {/ {4 w& V
　　One single white immensity.

' W3 V: ~9 D* |2 s0 y% i9 j; ?! v　　The Yellow River"s swift current
$ P; s- l4 s+ f; F8 `5 X  G6 n% Q
' D5 ~- d+ e  h) a" v5 h- S　　Is stilled from end to end.

8 ~- F) M2 u+ r  q; }2 x3 q  g　　The mountains dance like silver snakes

9 ]: b" p' _6 C* Q; z5 M2 I　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,

7 X6 f; ^% O. ]　　Vying with heaven in stature.

0 d$ _9 @& J; Q1 I1 E　　On a fine day, the land,

9 S- v+ ^! C8 ?　　Clad in white, adorned in red,

　　Grows more enchanting.

　　This land so rich in beauty

! @3 a9 e* ]4 J+ W/ _) {# C9 t  n　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.

　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

: y/ h  A- V4 Q8 B) m) r; Y　　Were lacking in literary grace,

　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu
( f# l4 h4 ?# K. Z. a/ x2 j
( P4 f5 A3 ?# ^7 P& s+ Y　　Had little poetry in their souls;
3 S9 ]! l* a0 O. f　　And Genghis Khan,
& u. ^. L1 x5 R
. U+ V, [% l* b5 `　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,
* e! u0 F- a, h. f* q
　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched

　　All are past and gone!

' A* B/ s9 u0 `$ H1 V/ H5 O　　For truly great men

　　Look to this age alone.
