6 X% F8 u& P  F! D- N. @　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

: l9 L1 ?$ D* `　　Both sides of the Great Wall

; y5 r/ j( |7 o; }" A　　One single white immensity.

; @$ M0 C0 K( j2 M9 h　　The Yellow River"s swift current

  A1 x: @9 M" @2 ]. H　　Is stilled from end to end.

9 C/ q1 o$ v! n6 M, r2 k3 J- @" a　　The mountains dance like silver snakes

　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,

4 a& B' R" m! n8 r% Y& a' _" M　　Vying with heaven in stature.

　　On a fine day, the land,

　　Clad in white, adorned in red,

$ Q0 ^; Z& M2 a　　Grows more enchanting.

　　This land so rich in beauty

; @5 P2 B4 {* c) ]0 e　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.

　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

/ \' K( k) Z5 ^4 ]　　Were lacking in literary grace,

- P. D6 p- b9 F/ l, r' a! V# C　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu
+ \- U3 M' F/ e
　　Had little poetry in their souls;

+ ~8 T& n: \) T　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,

/ K& h0 @4 a* Z/ ]; b3 {　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched

* y. G5 l. x' x# l, u  H　　All are past and gone!

3 Z0 I& }* S. F" ^5 G　　For truly great men

　　Look to this age alone.
