. p- l5 N3 U% I6 oExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
8 I' O+ L0 a* `# u1 d5 gnot do any of the following:
5 V# p+ U* [6 I6 [6 t) n(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
4 C2 V/ y# o8 w* m: m* Y$ nvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
1 J% F. _! n5 _4 z2 x& X; z" c(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
O6 p ], X7 Q& w$ y' H7 uvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;- o& C6 N( g0 y b; w
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
0 b* p: Y& V) ^" fpermit another person
3 T( _3 V9 y+ p4 B(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or- p; l* N4 c, M$ w/ ~) B
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,4 M4 n* O: Q) q% M' F& F$ W
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
7 h' m* ~) n! A3 S9 i8 J [, ~, G(d) give or lend a financial
I& U2 c( |7 tresponsibility card or a copy of it0 v* |9 `& r! _( T3 f
to a person not entitled to have that financial
/ }* R$ H9 E! l$ D2 b4 n6 Mresponsibility card or copy.$ j& n0 r6 z6 V, Y8 X# {" Q
(1.1)
* I2 o2 t1 |& RIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
$ o! }, ]- Y& J0 Q, c9 y7 ewithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
+ m* g: r6 h9 p+ Jthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
! H! ~ O+ c3 x! M(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is- D" i4 t0 B# V1 Z
not an insured motor vehicle.
% y) f/ n5 b/ X- N* r, [% W6 q(2)& \2 b/ g. C8 d- x' K) C$ Q; _
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this9 _) |; g$ r4 v; H; E
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this. K& w h: i6 C1 F9 F
section.

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a2 a- o/ M$ q: h3 I
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
6 _7 r1 T: `7 {Insurance Act- d! i$ C. I2 Z# `- }
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy$ s, T6 U4 n% C2 l5 B
outside Alberta.& a( Y/ A* c, J/ D3 b

! I% h7 u+ A" _A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection8 c: Q3 ~% b! h/ l
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
3 k# i. ?" p# [, D* a! T(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
; Y2 x0 J+ J- y' o# J* D Vand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to# ~# T5 @9 _0 O1 N" n+ }
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
/ d' G- c5 D4 t; hmore than 6 months
* x' ~4 _% f4 d4 b# C4 cMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
