7 G# C- {1 Z8 Q3 V' X, }; w7 Y
+ M/ I! C! `0 |% z9 ^2 f
        1. I couldn't care less. 8 B0 ^: T0 f$ r- _5 ^
8 l, N% X/ r- P6 \6 q( p! g1 l
I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如:
/ F- }5 Z9 o/ a6 ?. p" f2 \0 h; Q+ O: ]& M+ |3 p) e: b" R
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?)
; K! z0 S# K9 R- |7 E, n/ a+ l1 N7 m9 s1 `/ j4 q
  你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎) 2 ?% e8 M' C; K9 b3 t  k; g/ Y( D

- q: a2 m0 e. H7 h How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?)
/ N, O2 t# _1 N( t. Z# \
1 I! P6 d6 P- B* s7 B$ [# s I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!)
, ^1 D( h( |% \* K, z) U
# N, ^, l5 m!

0 [- C( p' o3 _ I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪)
! X4 v5 s& ]7 M3 s7 y
% V2 d2 Z  w+ F& s6 u. Yes, you do(care). . b, }+ [$ s% d* c' p
3 G! }* {7 s4 S6 J- U- j
I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理:
* r) I9 v/ ^7 c& C9 m' @& ]4 |4 i, ]) @$ v+ K! S% I! _
  I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意)
0 j4 X7 ?9 p: b& |8 M  S/ w6 w6 u
5 O  R1 |6 O6 X9 Q* o  |# h+ C I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
, c5 N' r9 O- l# t- `1 X0 @1 L
2 |0 }0 K2 y: h3 I) C; t I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right.
! F1 @  V2 }+ D* g8 ]. s4 k
/ r1 s" B% M7 n5 \! w. R" R$ a: y3 b 但是老外为了自尊,不愿强调自己的错误,所以很少人说:
+ ~6 {7 i. l  K
% h2 t% n0 X9 {0 O) t3 J) V I couldn't be more wrong. 7 G9 J2 i& z* M, f8 M

, j& t6 m8 r* D3 q' a
+ q' p, U0 u* {( ^! {0 \; a
I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少)
/ w7 A( _! Y5 N, Q4 B- j0 [( K  W* h/ S- H6 ?$ s% r6 E/ F
  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) 7 U# l, y/ Q1 i5 w
! a" Z+ a9 h# [7 S
  2. No bones about it. ) N/ y0 ~1 j" `
- ]# I# @# }: R9 n0 q) v' w
  意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如: ) V5 b$ P7 Q1 g; N7 e

7 x8 n- R# b; O' [2 ~8 X His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮) - V0 s9 p* N2 ^/ q# p* S. d8 ^! F6 ^
/ D5 C7 h% I  X4 L% Q7 |4 ^
Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。)
" ]# A9 G# ~5 Q. s3 V* X8 f
) x. I% u5 A% n3 t When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法)
7 F/ K+ h4 H7 [* h. p! U8 B% g2 ~1 d, D' F& ^- k: O
  No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了) 6 P; \, `5 k# c' h) A
- E$ E$ ?7 W2 a
  3. take it on me! " U7 Q! _1 H, J3 `! e* w- w9 h
) Y1 C" T* V; C5 |6 H  u
意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如:
* \3 T6 M  D7 L$ K* ]! v& f8 M$ L
2 u+ q, d" n( ]2 k' g2 k: b Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (这是来自英国的糖果,尝一个吧!) (one = candy)
2 i. {6 L% w: t, C  z7 T# t4 a6 o6 R) D) I
  The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me." (餐馆老板对我说:“尝尝我的甜点吧!”) 9 z+ R- W( r4 k: z2 U, M9 O; B0 i( {
& \: a& d1 ?! N* D' x! L% T
  Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!) ) g) ^% S; S2 x8 A3 K5 l

- ?% |  i* s! `% H4 p& `2 L- S7 F 可见 take 后面的 it,是指 something,而 on 的后面通常不指别人,所以多半也只用在第一人称单数 me。 9 E; n; x; s$ \# T

) Y! w$ B, c$ z# P7 S) z* { (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.) ! N2 t0 x5 A9 D4 r* P7 k9 W  x

& ^, Y/ T) V% k/ R6 H& T  s 4. I am from Missouri.
) Z+ \$ ]& m' y
0 n" J; X- P7 ]) n9 r 这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。
( `& I1 K3 L; C" {3 `6 c$ `7 Q! h6 l7 x0 l+ q

. M) g/ r) p4 g5 S& L& N2 s He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. + s% e' N" ^1 E! ^8 I& L' @

  ]8 {& S+ Z, U( E3 r Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) " a0 d2 i; O$ w. {. R5 `0 w/ \
1 n! w% K+ H9 g0 j. \/ E
  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown. " q) ?5 f* p* l( w

; ]& b+ n6 e6 n4 N As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri.
