; Y/ o. d  y' ?) g$ B' m
3 U! J3 r, w6 q0 ]' v$ d& u
        1. I couldn't care less.
$ k8 Y2 I- J1 r3 i
6 Z8 D8 p. ^, P3 A  这句话的意思是“我不在乎”,“缺乏兴趣”(lack of interest),也就是:I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如: , S' m) L# x* o9 r$ v/ {
! w  r' b, P$ p) c
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?) # ?* F2 s$ W  D1 U  w3 t

& J5 E) U6 a( Y& d( p& O3 k  你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎)
2 l! p# v: A, d7 e  R2 a, u8 u, x' n3 e$ u5 X
  How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?) - w3 a9 c' Z6 k3 t

% n& }+ L- E4 L6 s* P  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!)
) L8 W. s% g2 C" ~- A- P/ ?+ \# H4 l% v9 J. t6 x
! \' [3 A$ ^0 z4 }. C- T9 t0 Q
  I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪)
. p9 o" l7 E7 J- W5 I+ F) d* I  h
' `( v; {: F$ V  而实际上他是根本在乎升级和加薪的,那么人家也许就会回答说: Yes, you do(care). 8 R+ r9 O3 K  M( n, |

/ o0 p( D/ W- Z  D4 P' H  至于 I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理: 2 n4 C' C1 ^$ D# X! P* Y! N
0 r; W% ?, c# _7 |3 @
  I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意)
" ]# u, M1 n. R( y. i, N- L; [3 g2 r. z' f' l% _1 s0 i' n, R
  I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
( y/ G  I2 F+ r6 S- j' `) R/ i
0 b# y9 o( Z0 j, A/ v- }$ }5 [9 w  I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right. & z/ G- g0 ?7 B6 P4 v# o3 _

, k( i/ J: y1 O- v; W- O# G  但是老外为了自尊,不愿强调自己的错误,所以很少人说: 9 V. r5 f1 t) |9 q% z

: b- e: ~1 f. ?5 K0 z- V+ n  I couldn't be more wrong.
- c5 l" t( c, I. z: _- j" Y
9 ]. P7 {+ i6 L. g- m" W
3 C7 z( \# {0 N" ~  不过,严格来说,I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) 3 e4 v+ d4 d6 x. l$ g

3 z& |1 k, q( H- j; S6 s2 m  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) 7 @8 H2 `' ?  x2 `# o, e

' h# N( V( h, _! M  2. No bones about it. - g/ c! t. u; l3 P% W. s# I

! }7 U, E6 I* P5 W; x8 k  意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如:
8 g( w) V( D# N+ W, Q8 s5 S0 e5 j/ [  [7 K
  His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮)
" @  u3 S3 j7 T& x- j% q6 O5 R
8 g: a! p* t+ m9 z2 x1 F% R2 _, ~  Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。)
9 o9 ]" M/ F6 H$ A- K5 A
8 G& z4 A' p3 \  When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法)
* G& v6 @2 s# g" _3 s; X1 t9 M# `% Z5 X- {. R
  No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了)
7 x7 X. l+ N! t1 r( D
* A. E% i9 n0 {; j5 D' M  3. take it on me!
; n4 b# s6 f0 f' o0 |' [9 C# Y& O
. ^1 K) \3 \+ M/ c5 q, i, C. I. t& i  意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如: / }4 ], `, b5 H" c+ T7 `' M

. |& M: H4 m$ e' R+ N  Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy) 2 q* I0 n% W; Y, j" F

/ ?2 h7 j! h$ g1 R& ]- r, y( `  The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me."
; u  {9 U+ w4 B' d- s  [
8 D0 O6 s4 j# h. p+ B  Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!)
. Q# @( G" c; ]' a! P1 o- Q' \4 L/ b
3 h# Z1 E% M; D  D
0 a7 ^' p8 |1 s7 X
  (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.) 6 p' d( @/ b) g8 b% ~
  C" j3 u8 x. g8 l  M
  4. I am from Missouri. 5 N, P4 Q, ^: s$ m( @

1 C& {+ a1 \  t! b! \) ]7 ^) T  这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。
6 ?9 G3 W7 B" x3 K/ r; {& S. @( n; R  C; ~% ^

% t) X7 v  F# p( {7 K6 X+ F  He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri.
' P; \3 m( ?* w$ B/ W0 ^1 e& a) s5 u. ~" k" ]4 @; x
  Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.)
) l" u+ x: H; c, g! l( s+ K7 P# \4 r3 R
  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown.
2 X. P# x6 a7 L: s* u9 Q% A
/ H" M7 H' s1 X4 B& g0 @% d2 N  As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith先生是位倔强的人,他一定是来自密苏里州。)
