& a4 U: y' N! [+ p
7 {7 s  [6 C2 f        1. I couldn't care less. . |+ s5 q$ S4 |$ H/ h( {1 C
5 f# W, I7 R1 c; c
I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如:
7 ~9 f) u5 }; ?& P
- y2 j" k) C& s8 j( F4 w5 q% R9 e 人家如果问: What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?)
+ D# m! O# b' G  {2 t
% T& Y6 s5 }, ^! t9 } 你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎)
9 V' T; K5 [& D" [. o# B& _3 ~. s
5 D' I5 u* \. R: r6 ]' x  x, D- L How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?) 1 \% z2 o: n! i6 y
- _  F# t/ s/ v+ r0 ~) r
  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!) : T% Y" o! |( O+ T8 ^0 P. Z

7 i% s! g" ^5 g1 N9 }. m. X 但是有时说话者也有口是心非: 例如:
, p) j/ E4 f% [+ E
) w3 X3 [! R0 ]7 K I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪)
# X5 M" |2 ^: s8 t' [: X8 t6 o% `  T& O& k- ?, n
Yes, you do(care). * c& Y# w" }! h/ O
; d+ d0 m- S0 l) @
I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理: 3 w6 r" j9 f8 J+ G- Q! _

- }+ z4 B1 C4 t. Q I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意) 1 ?: V; A1 b# N0 ^
% c- G8 M" ~4 s
I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
' w' p$ b6 t3 Q( H/ t1 Q6 o; R3 P" c5 K, X" q! B4 b
I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right.
% h! P9 I# u* G  l+ |& z$ t$ Q8 j) M/ M2 G+ p) z4 f6 b+ O
4 x7 A# v; W& A6 @4 T
# k* t7 {2 H8 C7 k I couldn't be more wrong.
9 m% L8 F! w) F% K) D% C& d- C! d) f1 T1 _' D1 c- |
( g$ f8 ?. d! I  ^8 R
2 q, W0 c* q& P$ R' {) q& A
I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) & L: ?. P7 j) ]7 z' Y. u! k

) O2 z5 e6 Z9 w6 G) P I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。)   [* P5 _; X; z- v2 T

/ g/ L; u5 d2 @$ n$ R4 y% N 2. No bones about it. * Q2 b4 Y" s: u/ z3 p& Y
3 ?5 }- K+ p; c" P. A# Q
意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如:
- }" a0 [9 C; s
4 G6 w, X* j9 T His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮) 8 o& I; @/ \+ r0 K: u

7 `# L0 t2 j1 P1 \3 \$ l Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。) % f" l3 g& A1 L' u9 R9 o0 P

& g; P$ L% `! p& J' f4 K1 M# v, B When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法)
5 j4 C  r9 \8 H) X# k! Y) W) {% P& V# Y! k2 _2 h/ d* s8 E3 l
No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了)
) p6 {& B& g  A% A$ ?, q7 R9 {0 N% s# h2 j8 C
  3. take it on me!
+ @6 z3 u* O; z' h7 w* p9 j9 q5 M
; N2 e$ |3 O' a; m0 n: J 意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如:
* [  x6 P: j* y# q' f. I
$ J' s! z3 _" h# o$ g0 t  Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (这是来自英国的糖果,尝一个吧!) (one = candy)
0 h; ]$ S& ?& i- Z1 c% K
  @: ?. h5 O4 j. D, s/ Q. R The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me."
: k8 U6 x( ?8 k- @0 n! ^  F! ]* o0 @* r8 W+ Z6 K
  Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!) , }) A- @" ^$ Z* D( b6 b

; Z3 S. K+ N5 W- i2 f( l6 a& S' i$ U 可见 take 后面的 it,是指 something,而 on 的后面通常不指别人,所以多半也只用在第一人称单数 me。
' G3 B- T, v+ {% T# ?! P* d) A) M, f* z- |1 M% H
  (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.)
9 R. n' o7 Q1 b" W
7 E+ ~3 b, `# }* I7 ` 4. I am from Missouri. 6 O! {# k1 `, H) I' p) v% x& f
, f3 S8 k, ^* X$ Z+ a
这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。
4 |* H5 y! R. |) v$ S
{: T6 h9 D  ?- I

% _/ W; ?" X- O; u9 O, A+ ?" K; y He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri.
6 G+ F2 M7 j# O( }# `" a: K$ J; m6 `9 {9 F
  Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) 3 [8 ?  z8 v# v$ S# l6 R5 j
" }5 w8 f* _9 }$ z, i1 o% G
  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown. 3 z8 V3 {- z( N6 o' `
2 A. Z3 z# p/ P% }2 d" t/ |6 Z
As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
