T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip % _( }( e: E7 F7 m+ ^# j
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
; n; L2 z, E3 S4 w* c# {opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
4 l7 L5 M& W8 m. b& Kinterpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, # y, Q( ?: }# D; B, j* n
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

What will take place in the sessions?
! C! M( l$ M( S4 ~* BEach session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.: \3 t6 C! w, B( i" w4 p! f
7 h. S0 n1 O1 z
These activities will enable youth to:
$ Z6 [3 i, R% i3 H& @, G# y Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
) j! e9 ^% x) D9 j Learn how to access community services and programs
1 v( Z! ~* Z; j3 i& i: l- R Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills" O# Q0 |% }# l, m: `0 f
 Identify personal leadership strengths …1 k- W; f4 Y% Q, l

" v# M0 Y$ v# `2 x8 g0 v  c5 H2 JProgram Schedule:
7 u/ X3 M" o% }  J2 wRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.6 H6 G" e7 b: g* d; K6 }2 T
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
9 a' ]7 u. a* h. y) c                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily" @7 U7 p' s7 B

! z( ~- |; r0 x2 E/ Q3 KWho can participate?
4 h; p* m# p& a* u5 }+ `Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.

! q% }% N: E- i8 W. |What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?3 B2 Y& H6 _8 _0 q
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.

- c8 i% R8 h* }: g, j9 t: e/ N/ I4 a$ \# ]$ T% K2 h4 s) M
Volunteer’s Duties:
7 r7 ^7 k& w' M2 C+ @) O# \& H) B) h8 @  y
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies ! @5 \5 H/ \4 r' ]# R4 N
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development ! M; y) r1 I6 u' G! j
 Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
6 e0 J# W& e! K5 L7 O" n Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
* M) C+ W( _4 B6 p' o* W6 D Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
) B) z7 W0 \# R Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips/ O; T  G0 r, _+ u" `! W
 Assist in program planning. b( W6 ~# A5 f' L# U% d8 C) @
 Be a role model
. ?4 t: u1 @& v+ m' O7 o3 g& K6 R# h, g) I
Volunteer Commitment:4 F; r) U/ _2 ^( C3 w, a- w, m2 L

' [- n  C, ^  Q  p) Z1 s On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
0 z4 F" C& g& b8 P7 U2 k One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer! v# H/ g& }$ X: D: R! P

9 H) X' K4 }: @8 g Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
2 C9 U$ ^* j! }1 `4 ~$ P  a Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
1 ?0 u" I, S4 h# n  J A team player
6 {* n- e6 g5 o& ~$ f2 O/ { Able to work independently with minimum supervision6 R8 |+ ~  s# G# \
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
* D  Q, Z' b7 R Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
# X: M* ?0 k9 [, F% i* A/ u( f- t, c" {& M0 Y
