T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
9 C6 _; {1 h- a7 O! t7 @: \Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering 2 z# Z* S, W, n# _  E
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on 7 o$ C  E2 K! l, p1 H1 Y
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
8 r+ q& b# [9 O* W" B9 \" x- `! Vand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.0 q) Q* L( y. a0 g. i

Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

These activities will enable youth to:4 ~! J) \. G9 f9 W6 y7 {
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation/ n8 |0 p0 A8 C
 Learn how to access community services and programs! w  ]) x. Z% m& M3 ~6 u
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills

Program Schedule:: M. Z1 V9 @- c8 u
Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.. w9 w, _2 i0 I5 p$ @
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
, n' G1 F3 X8 n( v                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily$ G+ z* X; `9 Y  l4 n/ L- [7 l

Who can participate?
  q8 j2 {4 F: Q+ s# S. ]Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.8 }+ D! r# [  c0 L! K* k9 ~

9 B/ y! t: T" ~% r  I# ]What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
* I) C- |4 m* J  GIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.3 Y: I. [. a& G# k$ v
/ w4 m- _$ T. R1 K+ w' W

/ g2 J3 n& k: t3 j6 u- gVolunteer’s Duties:9 C& j) U( l# F8 }! G8 e

8 ^' b+ H: J% D3 P2 \, W Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
( d: [8 V1 n  m. ]# z Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
8 \3 B$ Z6 ~. C$ |" } Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities! a/ V# d. I( q3 N. z8 B1 A; x4 E& c9 ^
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions  r0 m2 Q8 Q6 }3 ^! B2 d
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic! M& x+ `" P' f! Z' E
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips& a4 r3 X3 X. ^& E% w( V5 |4 d
 Assist in program planning% [6 q; U- J9 W1 k0 N+ z
 Be a role model% r5 c% r! O- l& S9 G
; l. |$ a' P( r, j  b4 @+ G
Volunteer Commitment:
; U% K9 |* _+ E1 R
# D0 V! C% t3 g7 |0 d On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
# Q5 o' [" O& Q# t7 A One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
3 U5 [* p# _0 O" ^( J

 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator& D3 Y' _! p- Z: X1 o  u
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
) v4 Z# u( H5 _$ @% N A team player
- `1 j) X; n# a# ^ Able to work independently with minimum supervision
, l6 `. u. |, ]6 H3 @5 j Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families8 S; J  `- [/ ^3 U: b
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk, Q# y3 G( {  F: [) n+ i9 s4 u1 D
