T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip + [$ S5 g- |4 K7 o5 c8 E  V& n
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
: C6 Z. k  ~$ s! l; K) S, p$ U& U' B8 Topportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
) X0 `; d3 z7 [3 n0 v# f, uinterpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, " o+ }4 F4 Y; f  {' P9 O6 G
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.; z7 [$ T4 x. X

What will take place in the sessions?
" e( d. v6 C5 S  o# y' i+ K3 x1 kEach session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.+ k7 h! q# X1 X5 C8 f" y5 m" c

' D9 q% T' b: H2 g& ~9 z- g6 VThese activities will enable youth to:
+ }5 t# s# C0 x! c0 T: U  { Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
, Z5 M. R$ j) n  E( D; D6 W+ j Learn how to access community services and programs' B& @. K. [8 y4 d
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills0 H. f$ L' j. Z1 O# V7 P$ Z, @: O
 Identify personal leadership strengths …

Program Schedule:3 @! Z, q: b5 C: a; e
Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
" y7 _' W  t0 J% ^Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily9 w3 c; c! i! V4 g/ X, u# {: |9 g6 A
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily+ K  d/ H( i3 n+ J/ @$ G7 E& s8 X
" N& Q( }6 F# e/ ?5 r
Who can participate?
7 S' o: K6 [# B' X: sAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.6 r" e2 f- K# E

2 [( z7 g! l0 r. h7 c3 DWhat is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
- L: d4 c7 ^1 tIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.5 v& x+ U) z/ ?, K
! e: s1 s+ u8 w. ^6 r' k

' `: u7 d' C  V2 b, N8 nVolunteer’s Duties:/ X/ q  }* U0 ~' U$ Q
& C  C' q3 k+ U0 C- R
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
% x! _4 |! D$ @3 F9 Y Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
: X) t; Q2 i# h& ^+ t  ^3 G$ Y2 ` Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
' N: H# X! t7 T* {& {6 I. V. g Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
* o1 K6 @* n2 W$ E( }! t4 ? Research activities related to the sessions’ topic* F) o# X1 F* A0 i
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips+ V2 J/ L% {; V1 j. S) s, t
 Assist in program planning
$ T/ k- [) C- L; s9 t5 A2 n7 E( r Be a role model& o; |$ y! }1 `  A5 E) y' p

' ]* r  p3 i! s& A* cVolunteer Commitment:! b8 r4 z* T- V9 O- r8 f2 e
0 d! W7 {" [2 @8 u
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
: v! G. `' F4 [- E1 D' k* Z One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
  Y: k. Z' r# F* z. X& p# l1 j; y( F% k* k7 H& c4 {
Attitude/Skills Requirements:/ C6 T$ x* t$ c+ l/ Z9 @  D

 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
* k) y$ O7 h/ W/ l Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program' z% q5 D' s  M
 A team player. R5 V& t* H9 o! I0 M: Z
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision" \9 `( _/ e$ @8 F0 C- c
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
: {3 p9 `- Q: U5 {2 x- U Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
9 Y& t- |; U6 d- C+ H4 b3 U$ c; Y
