Position Profile Heavy Duty Mechanics inspect, service, and maintain diesel locomotives in accordance with federal and company regulations.

' e2 ?8 X9 |4 P* TDiagnosing diesel engine malfunctions and making indicated repairs
Operating machinery in a safe and effective manner
Providing daily locomotive maintenance that includes changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts

# h: r1 I) ]. Y" j% w2 X7 y( f# WDiagnosing locomotive component malfunctions
Preparing inspection, work and maintenance reports
Performing other functions as assigned

Good eye-hand coordination
Frequently lifting weights up to 50 pounds
Occasionally lifting weights up to 100 pounds
- ], R7 @8 n4 D& z( gPhysical work, sometimes outdoors in extreme weather conditions
6 X0 w/ P. u' G5 oRegular exposure to dust, pollen, fumes, noise and vibrations
Working shifts, sometimes away from home
Basic technical knowledge of diesel

, V5 X6 D- R- m3 V) d! \/ xUsing measuring devices and understanding visual displays
! }: W1 z  l- i  W$ JMay need current, valid drivers license, CDL, and locomotive engineer certification
9 t9 ^% X$ W. S$ o) eVisual acuity and hearing threshold tests are required for this position. Written pre-employment tests to become a Machinist Apprentice are required for this position. Completion of 3-year apprenticeship is required to become a Journeyman Machinist. This position is subject to night, weekend and holiday work hours when needed.

This is not a Red Seal apprenticeship.
