that we cannot support imposing a UBB business model on wholesale Internet

Our government recognizes that the Internet and digital technologies are
2 l" A! f/ e7 A; @an increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving* _" N. p. o6 `% E% z
innovation, commerce and social interaction. As the government develops: U& Z6 n6 o; V8 w6 @. N( b
Canada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look: v& C. O! |4 {+ l
carefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be
; r$ ~- E' ]5 y% k3 o1 oguided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and$ Y2 c; i; v9 T4 `5 w3 @
investment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing- D) ~4 ?! Q0 i
market forces to prevail. ( b. D7 Y$ s4 P# P( K& V2 b
% |" d- c5 F9 y% y PThe Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has" e6 y% b, P* H& D
chosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large0 }- D$ s* s+ R& a+ w! A$ h! ^) f

line with the best interests of Canadian consumers and encourages' C8 {! t- ?; g% G; I0 ]
competition among internet service providers. I will be recommending that; G8 w* M) Y. m! `# B4 Q! Q
any decision counter to these foundational principles be reversed.
