The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition

9 P) n6 c1 o9 {The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the+ u S2 e& j+ h. u
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the* i% K0 V2 M7 E- P8 k& R
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
3 [( v1 s6 q7 ^8 J7 ~* M- Zthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,+ @- L0 r% R5 N
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
+ V2 Q, |8 u/ q- Cboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
# C& n: f! ~1 i2 x9 N) Tconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an1 o- P2 o. {" _; U- j* f6 ?
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
3 o1 U0 N6 I/ z* Cstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend0 A& H6 ~9 m" X# x6 R% m
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
4 r5 ^, O% x- b2 v9 @4 f$ PThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
7 s3 A. Y( n$ _# c' I2 z& D1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
) }- q* V0 b5 S' eofficers of the Coalition1 D5 U! f; s$ r/ e( A: C8 n
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
8 \) v4 ^7 s7 G4 \. `8 Zorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
: c. R) S" f" j; T s9 e9 i) Rand public institutions
9 n- a, b; s3 Z8 Z# S: ]( S Y3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through. U5 @& D: |# \
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives/ x- {% p# E5 O* D5 ~
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
4 k6 z( c& C) n. m$ P9 Jorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic/ \& M* Y0 k# ~) G0 j
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society! d5 ^1 g0 {( u) S$ _; M
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working; F- ~" f' [ L! z l
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically7 ^) W& E5 J {" d
diverse backgrounds- y! v5 o( Z& C% _+ ~
% X$ v9 L2 s0 A% DAdministrative responsibilities:
5 b+ e6 m' x! ^# [( a8 J1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its5 K/ o( ]/ [; ~
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of5 U9 F, n6 X' S: h) \
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
; z' q$ f( f r, P/ ~4 R, xmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
9 |+ k. Z' x6 R2 A2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
: _' E. m2 L6 {8 k1 [/ f0 F# @Multicultural Coalition3 ^5 t! N. j9 y8 F+ i
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board3 r2 a9 O K8 ?) b3 z s
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
: y; s1 D, Q7 u4 fimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating. y( T! ^9 o* {* q, p; n5 b3 n+ G
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
, z$ g/ n3 }! t$ fThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and$ c/ ^! J* F C: I1 r, i- A
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
+ a' q. R; s! l! Y3 hbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership) j8 H0 l. L( ^# z9 {+ k) a. S, g
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and: f* V# E' d8 `7 [5 I9 ]
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of8 U" }6 }* s/ K, M, \( C
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
- l8 f: p, b+ W, O: `0 Fstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all, I& f7 t- c, J$ O6 `
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of

policies already adopted
