$ B! M/ L( G( x N3 u( pThe Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition* m7 E+ P1 w3 k% h' _1 l
Roles and Functions1 Q/ f6 [9 @" H/ T, y6 S
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the. w. O0 Y9 L1 d/ {* }2 |5 H" u. w
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the6 f6 E, z+ d: G; v7 z
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
3 ]+ w$ k- n7 L, b, o$ L( s" J; vthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
6 d' K6 \- U* g6 u) uoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular' L/ P& E$ C2 F0 }9 @
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
# h* k9 h/ U( ~0 m/ jconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
5 E+ k$ j8 D5 K* D% bemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires8 l; \0 L3 y: t1 B; L1 L; q1 c
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend1 V+ s! n' N+ W9 ?4 \3 c8 A; u! R5 C
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant. y+ N7 u6 ~7 U. ?* ]; l: U

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
! y1 r8 o: |9 r! A1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
% r+ Q9 H' D W: ]' ], s0 B/ a0 dofficers of the Coalition- u" `& j" W S% f2 D# t0 Z
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural6 y4 D1 P* E" K1 j' ]
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations! y5 C( \! L9 p/ u3 k9 P2 [5 d
and public institutions6 n: Q% Z* E' j- [5 R
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through% c" E! u- s* Q6 ~7 }4 D$ I+ S
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
5 D0 a1 H7 Z7 v, N3 w) v4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community# z* ]$ G- U8 d/ m
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

6 O+ j) i+ ^3 W6 YAdministrative responsibilities:- G4 I, g% Z- `7 u
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
& Q# L4 k+ ]( L& bregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of! u& r2 \& @: r4 E3 p
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
8 A9 q: S2 b- [* P) g7 y& @members of the Coalition’s financial condition.+ A2 m' P, w- f+ Z
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the- f! d( y/ ~7 V$ X4 C7 B

9 }3 D7 t+ c, B9 h& ~All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
, n! _1 \& N. x U8 r; Simplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
) d/ @# x" h0 {6 \9 ]# `operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
, F6 M% V6 d6 JThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and1 `( I' h0 \; R0 U, }
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
+ c h/ O- j3 L4 W% O1 V" p" Fbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership9 d- F( G% Q$ j
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and# T0 ` R; Q* P7 J
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
* e* x; a2 a- o2 q. T. g2 A2 j* Wdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
1 h2 a- n' Q$ t) n& S5 t4 v, Lstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all. [! H& y5 O+ H" q# w9 b
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
* E% B2 n" S% l& `3 Sdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
