Roles and Functions0 }! L* g9 Z7 C3 ]; q
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
) o8 ~, s; G% e. l7 f- ]organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the9 n0 I- \ F. i8 s3 D* e
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
9 p! c3 M. V4 othe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,& n# e) @3 S2 t" k
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
- p8 Q1 {) H$ G* Aboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
T% C1 _+ Q9 H; F6 b: Iconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an! d6 s7 Q; r; v( J+ n; K
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires" h. y, |5 v: m# ~
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend! X4 w5 y! K5 B3 a7 t
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.' }8 p* J" r" q$ ~6 Z9 s6 r* {: F

' E9 ~, V4 ~& q' f8 B4 r% U( A1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
2 b. W/ X8 {+ m) u4 x, Porganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations5 Y4 t) j7 ]( ^. ~0 M
and public institutions
! ~! d% ~% n9 F* y3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
: R2 }3 x6 S. w* I8 n8 F# Afunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives/ }. O4 W, \: N: Y/ Z
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community7 S, W* }' `# H
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with. h1 `0 I1 ^. E; W: Y" K! }% D

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working0 [+ J. f2 ~6 C( C
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:% s9 @/ Q1 u4 @2 z7 R/ Q& @
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
8 j# y6 O& S) E# uregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
: h' t' v) L9 N; |, fdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the$ _2 @+ l1 }$ J5 t' T. Y
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
! Q& ]! h- Q. p g2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the2 J! M: H4 [& Y2 d& B4 Z

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
2 \" |: `/ c* A: U! vAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to& D4 R9 ]: i8 _# b6 P
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
$ s4 x* ~' q' I5 L, s5 ^0 ioperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
9 h# t# f& Z/ _1 h9 uThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
/ m+ ~6 t' Z7 gaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
4 }$ ~: v ?! z H7 ?) Gbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership! s, v8 h6 I) n1 U* b
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and: \) D- R, Y1 m p0 S' p# e' m$ B
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
% x+ F; u2 [ j1 _! e5 ]directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
7 E# {" m9 z1 w1 Xstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all/ ?' k0 x3 m6 n" c9 q H5 T+ b ~0 `
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
- ]4 F6 d! Z) i* x. |$ V mdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of1 ]. k N( O" ]$ A
policies already adopted
