The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic % U! N6 y: k1 `  j  _
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
1 F- g* _. G9 ~4 j0 N9 ?# A, ?this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 3 Y7 o4 t6 s0 K! b, j& [
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and ; a/ D7 ]  B: c
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities
+ w! E, o, K4 i* | ! N# t5 c1 w, d# n
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
: B! z+ U- W) n4 Vexecution of the YWCA Strategy
5 `( U& S1 |, w2 P * g' Y' R0 U) X3 {1 g2 l+ ^/ U
Specific responsibilities include:  % K4 p, D. ^7 ?4 _

2 n" j  T5 s0 H8 C7 O•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 2 D* H* k- ?  @9 k, K
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
) Y3 C1 I; y' ]# Vthe Board of Directors;  
7 h6 }6 I: M6 f' M•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
0 L  r; e( x; o( x" xincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to / ?/ B3 d7 \, T: m# c0 F% ?* V! K: ?
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;   ^: ]( y0 Z8 [' D
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 0 V! L& h2 q  v
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
- s6 u+ x1 l  b5 Uthe board;  4 m2 ~+ \0 C) q
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
8 [+ r3 s( u) N. M3 I•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
# ~- `1 H- O' o* f3 H6 Fthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
! a2 @# X" X# o•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 7 p. z) v: H5 g
changing needs of the organization and community;
( @! K0 L& L4 b' S7 U- L% s•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
# i" y9 A. }- B$ s' zcommitments;
! W8 c) H# x0 {7 X•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  , W" h: ^; p9 E9 p2 I' Q# K+ W
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
0 ]. V5 T0 X8 Y2 d1 M1 Kselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
) H  [4 h- g4 d% C& A6 z•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
) q$ k. Q! w9 \9 U4 S•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to ' Q0 T: D/ T" [* b# Y
effectively and positively represent the association;
/ r1 X; [" Q- s7 e% E  M$ R/ Z# _& H  k
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 4 \; ~7 P* Y0 D( S
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  . x6 D6 i; o( G- R
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
2 s' I, Q, `' F. n6 h6 Lperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED   F. G! D6 O$ K) m
the forthcoming year;  
9 U, }/ Z! w" D5 O0 a) h; Y& X3 s4 S•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ; x- Y$ Q6 U* V; y' k4 j5 U, W
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ( U/ n9 L$ A  T) s, k. w( \
YWCA Canada; and ; g3 t8 g' ^+ ]6 ]. q* Q. k1 c. ?
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
" @2 t$ G" ?, `4 _$ H( RForces.  & S6 y* m! B, f- K, m2 s. b2 u1 Q9 n
  
2 H' ^7 j4 N3 h) s) kRequired Skills & Abilities
" [1 t; P, v# ]. Q•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; ; n; G+ ]* W1 r' i
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
7 h+ Q7 \, N8 karound decisions, plans and actions; 5 l' E, {$ F1 i' O$ g% Z& I5 E2 ^
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 5 H8 `4 C6 Y" @1 c$ G% H
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable ! \: ]$ O7 o2 D/ e# H# o
and achievable with realistic timeframes; 3 d; d1 |- e- h
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ! L6 Y7 B( P2 @1 ~1 I  s
simultaneously;
& ]% v1 [# O* u- i•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
0 f) l2 I; h! Erapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

•  Superior negotiation skills.   S! d5 J. ^  [) O" Y! K  d

•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
2 [2 {# I, @( B 2 `/ Q0 b( T! J: P7 u( c& V6 j1 l- t
Required Experience
8 z, H$ q1 I* \5 r$ s6 R. c•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 1 E0 m  S# A9 l: o6 ~
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
$ _: _  n/ d' K) p/ z; O* yabilities;
! F0 }4 Q5 i$ l  S. s" l•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
' n0 U6 |3 A# a8 _  {9 WNetworking and Fundraising;
* Q% n) g/ I0 q8 r$ q•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 2 C9 @8 O& |  r% D
and financial statements; and
; N# a' r+ r8 H7 p; K: {3 |( |8 B•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 0 f7 r& S& S( v* f9 ?
centered perspective.
