A baby food recall is underway as a popular Heinz baby cereal may contain elevated levels of a mycotoxin.

4 M; S8 a$ _9 `- PThe Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Heinz Canada are warning parents about ‘Heinz Mixed Cereal, Stage 2, From 6 Months’. The best before date codes located on the top left hand corner of the package are ‘BB/MA 10 DE 26’ and ‘BB/MA 10 DE 29’.0 |8 J2 P" [# x1 U: _1 h
No illnesses have been reported from consuming the cereal. Heinz Canada says that the cereal may contain elevated levels of Ochratoxin A (OTA). 3 c7 B2 n6 r: ]$ v6 ^' g
( N9 ^6 B- J9 R; _; F. IIn a news release, CFIA says Ochratoxin A is a mycotoxin produced by fungi that can grow in food such as grains, grapes and coffee beans and has been classified by as a possible human carcinogen.

CFIA says that if a child has consumed the food, there is no need to seek medical attention since the substance is not harmful when eaten as part of a healthy diet over the short term.
