"It shows the resilience of our city," said Mayor Stephen Mandel.7 ~' } d& R4 P, N( T/ ~
The population increase will lead to roughly another $650,000 for the city in provincial grants for policing and libraries, while other grants such as the provincial Municipal Sustainability Initiative could also be affected.4 g8 x- L v. i& R% _
Mandel said he was surprised by the increase.+ A! A- g' b" k! h: L
"It's a substantial increase, but it's not going to overload our system, so it won't work," said Mandel, noting that much of the population is between the ages of 25-34. That age group does not use as many city services as others, Mandel said.
