Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

1 R! k* c' |) v1 d4 ]Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
: I9 {- e9 S7 B1 F3 ~Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule6 b. Z6 P n5 R9 T+ A& z ]+ ~
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
, \" n5 W+ K: g9 ]$ P* J- f1 \7 ienvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste: A, b0 T5 @- _5 e* i! g
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
* j7 u* ]$ d" V1 |vermin-composting and residential recycling.
) u8 E8 R$ A$ ]* G, q/ x" Q. g9 [ R s: A8 k4 j8 r
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips0 b) S; y/ [ R, ^- }6 A
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates7 `2 z! G/ Y+ B# r, T
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:1 f5 m [4 U) r6 ^4 j$ B
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important7 H+ g: P$ i+ {0 K1 F: W
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
; a% d9 a7 A# ]3 ^' s. Timportance of composting and recycling.
0 ?0 b1 d" X: k+ J$ ~9 C. d$ f( i' _0 b a' N; t" \
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
9 m7 {, q% |: M" D6 zReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;$ [5 x N& o+ T& A. s/ `2 G
public education display booths; assisting with programs and9 q7 e) V0 J1 @7 d* W$ w3 t
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at0 V& g4 H$ N' `7 n0 c
various demonstration gardens and general public and school% Y, C: H# o9 K" y
presentations.

8 V4 Y. N N5 H& Z' U- }There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
& b' `" U+ L# C/ N( F% |volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
! c0 d5 ]6 M, r. @7 X% i9 ?3 ^most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
