Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free! [7 H3 k/ P3 z4 v8 E5 f9 j p* p

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
: g% z+ Q' _% X4 X4 P1 ~7 t& PMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule9 q- v* `" b( ?$ j' b6 }
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about n7 M9 v0 z! A
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste& t7 u; R/ J1 ~0 @: e
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
% I: d: W, Q3 C& v- [3 {! B5 dvermin-composting and residential recycling.) b& c5 c5 D4 [: k
- }! q% F5 X WThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
) S1 U" h0 a- ]to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
% {/ L* \# R& jcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:+ F8 t3 D+ F$ `7 @7 G# W
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important5 m6 U1 P/ @. E0 }
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the/ P8 @3 |3 e' |* b5 B
importance of composting and recycling.0 G( V5 a3 X6 t% n0 B P
) L: ?9 _; I* H. h& s
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
8 Z% M( E8 i; I+ `& \) aReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;: f- G, J8 B* v6 p- H- u
public education display booths; assisting with programs and. h* N6 G Q g; w! b+ ~( l0 b
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at. i# F3 } O* J* C; b1 r5 |* K
various demonstration gardens and general public and school+ w" d; [: m3 ^) ^& i ]; A
presentations.

5 \8 B* \! Y: v* a7 n2 mThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and6 Q3 ~. L0 E& [- @/ G& v+ S
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the$ k: F4 Y) s+ V' p8 `
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
) I5 {9 l& d2 m# C. Q* Aknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings, D. g" l# M7 b( W4 e) J
-Saturdays all day - for three consecutive weeks.
