Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the2 l! k' w! L! N. F7 `0 T* U) a* C
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule! v, r$ m/ c. x/ V
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
# J9 k" z8 A ^6 o# Q- zenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
% V/ ]: |2 c$ ]5 ]( l) s' E; P- Zmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;: [; Y, Y& q% N! s5 W
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
/ H( W/ }3 J ]9 e7 z! Y8 i* ?; n! t( i) N) ` M
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips+ z" T4 a9 v' \' u, Q5 T. y6 J# E' o
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates- p& H/ ]9 c5 H' @
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:! Y. t+ t6 F- d1 f" U6 C5 v/ ~3 f
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
$ U9 P* A) r3 m; Presources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the* }: t& g2 `+ \
importance of composting and recycling.% D7 j' t7 T- J. s; c
5 c8 M8 i4 }2 J3 D& ^9 u1 L
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
+ S) h$ G o& ]Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;) M/ I6 C/ s& R$ W1 x& c$ _9 ^
public education display booths; assisting with programs and6 ]& Y2 ^# w$ H; {5 F
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at+ ]' W P% k3 T+ D" ?$ i2 C5 ^
various demonstration gardens and general public and school

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
- k) r: H8 x& J, o6 {volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the$ c+ b: |% ~" P; Z
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
\1 C2 z; T* L- J2 Y/ Mknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings
