Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!$ r+ k) x. s& ?% S

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
& A! e. P/ }# l4 W0 O& v) s+ \Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule+ u7 O7 l# l g* E$ U
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
) T' Q" t0 i. {environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste& D6 Z; @4 j$ ~& S' B# R$ V
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
! g7 m+ ]; d; Bvermin-composting and residential recycling.
: n5 N$ W. j4 n a: m
' ?% ?) q7 O; j# `4 F# aThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips% c) ^. k. i' j$ b* Q' Z3 ]
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
$ @, }/ C+ j" f' u: k! Z, [complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
# }$ c+ [/ K# l; M/ f% Y8 rreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
# b( e8 a# ?- i* O/ h& V+ H( Y& sresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the" f y) ? o0 H R/ `3 v* m0 O
importance of composting and recycling.

! R$ D8 x. X5 eExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the2 d; r, H3 j- k O" `
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;" X- w4 [, h* r. O1 P1 \
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
5 _ W$ [. B; J! @, E) I) Rmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at: g# P: G' M+ m% A4 K
various demonstration gardens and general public and school

5 m. k' o4 R$ V$ W% Y# wThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
0 t9 G0 O0 x7 V `) Uvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
