Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

3 u5 y% x2 Y/ [6 O* wDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
7 T$ G T5 y r4 P/ lMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule/ M$ D0 Q+ d. k" N
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
8 \* L/ @: \1 F, v& ?2 p( cenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
$ J) k3 C" x! W% H2 ]0 gmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
4 w2 @1 D* m P. l& Dvermin-composting and residential recycling.
3 |3 R2 i) Y5 C" b" z- C6 y6 G; m4 b4 W) f2 v4 l. t
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips# m, D8 v' `4 R3 d6 ?) {/ Q
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates+ [, q- G; J0 I2 m+ s" o
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
7 F- j7 S% s( G' x& W6 x9 zreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important& d" I; f* q4 a. j- r
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
' _2 I$ k! o% ]! i: v! k* Aimportance of composting and recycling.0 a$ X5 {! e. Q' S' q2 ?8 ~- O# |
* O6 U2 ~ z) Z* a* tExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the$ l3 M A& }- L' j
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
9 W0 m5 K3 W5 d- F6 upublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
! \! a! R( q5 e: gmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at6 ^/ d/ K. V( N- W+ M
various demonstration gardens and general public and school! [8 R0 Q: X2 w3 Q& i: Y
presentations.

1 B- J, E+ ]2 X# f8 UThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
