Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!1 q3 v+ v, M0 B4 z+ ]

& Z: t# m6 _3 a9 ] E& r) nDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
3 |+ t( t( P- ^ Q3 J5 D+ S" ]( Q* PMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule8 {* t x3 s; H: H$ l; m, H' D
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about" v% Q; d/ O9 C# o9 o g( D4 h$ s
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
& F% K9 u! }. G, R- vmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;' b' ^ D0 m4 [$ i" D4 P+ _
vermin-composting and residential recycling., d9 q. z( q6 X: J
/ V0 e8 j y' I+ r* W4 M6 p9 iThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips+ D- u+ `, X$ @' a" R7 C2 Q
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates q: ^& E- C2 k) f3 h9 f8 a' `, T1 Y
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
5 o* Z* j E* l3 ?( { Freduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
! e# f) P1 V& y E* {resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
9 c0 X0 Q3 _+ Rimportance of composting and recycling.

$ Y' [3 m* q, V3 y' L/ EExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
4 S3 d" [) Y! g" {, n; ~" J) aReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;7 B# B q# u8 m0 Q% N
public education display booths; assisting with programs and9 }" q2 u4 ]9 v6 Y
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
! M" U' s8 |& f# g* e$ E7 y) zvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
v. j) ^2 m$ d( Epresentations.

+ G, N- J4 u1 a7 u# ]0 AThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
+ m) `" u( e! m1 u; u- ?. ~volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the

/ X8 P) Q! w% u1 O9 w, rknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master0 P% t* X( I7 Q+ S& B9 m0 i! h
