“self-inflicted” has the connotation of creating theunnecessarypain for one self.! z0 q' c7 s* s* [2 J* c( X! w

折腾 in Hu"s speech has a strong connotation that such kindofsetback is self-seeking instead of being due to theinterferencefrom outside.7 g$ Y" r/ ~( Z8 l/ r2 _& J' [
- B' ^5 S0 {1 ^4 u “Setback” is a much better word than “trouble”, whichanunseasoned translator would like to use in the firstinstance.“Setback” especially refers to the obstacle ordifficultyencountered in achieving a strategic goal. |
