Edmonton police are investigating two killings from early Sunday morning, the city's 20th and 21st homicides of the year.

In the first incident, a 30-year-old man is dead in what police are calling a "gang motivated" shooting near Whitemud Drive, the Edmonton Police Service said in a press release.& }$ Q6 x! \; i7 h; a- B
' r0 V& Y$ P5 QAt approximately 2:20 a.m. MT, the EPS responded to a call of shots fired at a silver Infiniti near a Whitemud Drive overpass at 170th Street.

2 j! k9 H; K! AOne male passenger fled from the vehicle before police arrived, and reports indicate a small white car was seen fleeing the scene after the shots were fired.1 f2 l) w& G& Z4 x4 w

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are still under investigation, but police believe the incident is not random and is likely gang-related.

1 man dead in stabbing
( _. f3 o. t J2 G0 s. W) MMeanwhile, one male is dead and another is in police custody after an altercation between two groups in an alley early Sunday morning, according to an EPS press release.

At approximately 2:45 a.m. MT, officers spotted a vehicle being driven the wrong way on Gateway Boulevard near Whyte Avenue.* V, o& m4 ?: |" j' W- O& a; G3 W

Upon stopping the car, the officers learned that one of the passengers, a 24-year-old male, was seriously injured.

A police investigation revealed that the three male occupants of the vehicle had been involved in a physical altercation with two other males and a female near an alley south of Whyte Avenue, between Gateway Boulevard and Calgary Trail, which resulted in one male being stabbed.
