) f% @ c: b4 U! ]The Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers requires a fulltime Settlement Practitioner to deliver settlement services for Temporary Foreign Workers in the Edmonton region. This is a term position to March 31, 2010.% B8 K4 ^' n) {3 Z! k2 m

• Marketing and outreach to industry and workers4 i0 W7 G8 N/ W* p
• Outreach delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”# D2 m: _/ D. d! J
• Centre-based delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”

The Settlement Practitioner will be a front line practitioner, providing settlement
4 z4 P5 m* X* @- h! ~7 c, Yguidance, information, orientation and referral services for Temporary Foreign
, A, o) ]/ \& y3 P6 E* `1 @ h0 mWorkers, including matters of employment, housing, language, immigration and, ^# x; S- H/ n$ s# s* c
supportive counselling by telephone, emails and in-person.

orientation workshops related to settlement needs of Temporary Foreign workers.

community based. Some internal and outreach weekend workshop facilitation is

• Provide a detailed needs assessment of TFW’s referred from EMCN staff,other service providers, industry employers, as well as self-referrals1 S }* x! G3 f$ f9 x5 A
• Establish and maintain relationships between EMCN, other service providers and industries employing temporary foreign workers and promote settlement services at EMCN
j* ~3 U# }5 E9 [% T& Y• Maintain close relationships with the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office
+ E0 {+ f9 F- q• Provide counselling to help temporary foreign workers adjust to Canadian life,make referrals when appropriate, develop needs assessment and action plans if required
; @8 ]3 T& X+ W& E7 r- B4 {• Assist people to fill in application forms, prepare for meetings or appointments relating to settlement or employment
! S4 h$ s; o1 H; a! v• Take clients to view apartments, open bank accounts, register for healthcare and become familiar with community services/ N; m6 h8 N! F/ a( S
• Assess and refer individuals experiencing critical or complex immigration and employment difficulties to appropriate service provider or government agency
7 W* s6 ^) E: h: D• Facilitate and coordinate delivery of workshops related to settlement of TFW % i$ o9 B7 \" c& k1 M6 o, n
• Promote English language services for TFW and employers/ u) U+ @) p8 S9 X Q" S2 a
• Arrange interpretation and translation services as required
% E7 _; ^8 o- @' V• Strengthen and build supports with community groups and volunteers8 H0 S) a4 v3 k e
• Provide service delivery duties as required Desired skills, education and experience:8 A# X, M7 t! \: @
• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a Settlement Practitioner in an intercultural/multicultural/cross-cultural context/ o2 x) `) k" r1 M% s( Z
• Relevant post-secondary education in social science or human service area
" V# U) `. _) E4 m( |• Excellent written and oral communication skills
% O3 T4 E+ A" P3 z1 _• Strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers and to working in an intercultural environment with cultural competence
. ^% s" Q# ~1 `* F" G• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based workplace, demonstrating flexibility in organizing work, showing initiative,judgment, resourcefulness, good decision-making

• Spanish language proficiency is an asset
