& ] g% Q3 k4 `; J9 T( W2 v9 aThe Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers requires a fulltime Settlement Practitioner to deliver settlement services for Temporary Foreign Workers in the Edmonton region. This is a term position to March 31, 2010.

guidance, information, orientation and referral services for Temporary Foreign. M6 U2 k( v% b& g
Workers, including matters of employment, housing, language, immigration and
! a' _8 |' @/ L7 l% W. f5 N2 Z2 dsupportive counselling by telephone, emails and in-person.

Workshops and group sessions will be centre-based, employer/industry based and
& t3 p1 [# O% s- l r9 ncommunity based. Some internal and outreach weekend workshop facilitation is

1 M% r: k7 C U. ]• Provide a detailed needs assessment of TFW’s referred from EMCN staff,other service providers, industry employers, as well as self-referrals8 y2 w! k* o/ _% J* l8 a% B
• Establish and maintain relationships between EMCN, other service providers and industries employing temporary foreign workers and promote settlement services at EMCN6 X3 @$ S9 {0 T* V% x
• Maintain close relationships with the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office" L8 b* z( x- v, B
• Provide counselling to help temporary foreign workers adjust to Canadian life,make referrals when appropriate, develop needs assessment and action plans if required; i; B7 B2 X1 E* L
• Assist people to fill in application forms, prepare for meetings or appointments relating to settlement or employment
! I& U3 v) r0 K2 @• Take clients to view apartments, open bank accounts, register for healthcare and become familiar with community services0 K4 @, m, ~6 ~# o8 t9 p$ m& }
• Assess and refer individuals experiencing critical or complex immigration and employment difficulties to appropriate service provider or government agency3 P' M3 d9 \: S1 n$ M
• Facilitate and coordinate delivery of workshops related to settlement of TFW : I% ?7 p( V- o* F4 b
• Promote English language services for TFW and employers+ Y1 e7 ^+ Y( q2 \
• Arrange interpretation and translation services as required& `6 W- s( X3 g) a+ o! }' e
• Strengthen and build supports with community groups and volunteers
9 L) ~0 s3 O* l9 I6 H( T1 k I; \• Provide service delivery duties as required Desired skills, education and experience:
/ L# _' j6 G+ b5 u- I4 S/ B• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a Settlement Practitioner in an intercultural/multicultural/cross-cultural context
8 k! Y5 }8 O8 [* j- X+ l: I• Relevant post-secondary education in social science or human service area
; Q: \# O# i: g, l8 d( h1 R6 Q, ]• Excellent written and oral communication skills6 D. R% ~% W; s
• Strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers and to working in an intercultural environment with cultural competence/ E8 v$ p! o( W6 y0 [
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based workplace, demonstrating flexibility in organizing work, showing initiative,judgment, resourcefulness, good decision-making% `4 w( A8 s3 I4 ^3 M
• Proficiency in English is essential, as is fluency in other languages- [4 g1 _4 O. z1 E5 h: i
• Spanish language proficiency is an asset
