just choose one of those "patterns" (A1 A2 B1 B2) listed at the engineering webpage for first year students.
ask yourself: are you happy with mostly morning classes or, mostly afternoon classes?
then select courses according to one of the A# and B#.

if you really wanna know your profs, go www.ratemyprofessors.com:

and choose those hot ones.

btw, Bear Tracks has not showed who's gonna teach what section yet.
