Duties

* Provides routine technical and administrative support for sample preparations and mineral separation for isotopic analysis7 V+ d! `1 n7 g4 l/ X+ c& o5 Z
* Conducts mineral separation, sample imaging, grant mount preparation, sample weighing and iron exchange chromatography* G0 M9 `/ {6 s/ u/ b! M
* Provides training to graduate students, visiting scientists on preparation techniques' l/ e7 d! E$ s* s: Z1 n! t* Y! |1 N
* Compiles analytical data using standard office software such as Excel, Word and Corel for use by the PI or client
2 ~: G# `# S9 A$ P( d * Performs routine maintenance on equipment and lab husbandry
& \; \0 M( U% y3 a. H0 {' o * Orders supplies, maintains lab records, maintain WHMIS records and compliance labeling, maintains lab inventory and safe disposal of chemicals

* Assists with laser ablation analyses on the multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS)

1 n' X" _6 X: E/ ]/ gQualifications
: l' ?' D# o1 A' ]: t9 y9 I* U6 i8 _; e& r( e) T' m) T1 l) \& t! p
* Post Secondary diploma in laboratory technology, Chemistry or Earth Sciences; BSc in Geology or Chemistry preferred( l4 G) f% I4 l
* 1-2 years experience working in a research environment (analytical chemistry lab or geochemical lab)
$ ~; S- v+ e. o9 v- i. C$ y * Computer proficiency using MS Office applications and Corel3 b5 \; r1 P( r9 V) c9 z; t
* A thorough knowledge of lab safety protocols and WHMIS procedures
