Duties

$ V, v T/ H9 R: Z * Provides routine technical and administrative support for sample preparations and mineral separation for isotopic analysis) c- @6 r; w& P1 P
* Conducts mineral separation, sample imaging, grant mount preparation, sample weighing and iron exchange chromatography% Z9 E6 D2 N: {/ I: e$ o
* Provides training to graduate students, visiting scientists on preparation techniques
/ W: B) c) B5 ?$ f% P * Compiles analytical data using standard office software such as Excel, Word and Corel for use by the PI or client. a5 g1 C7 p/ ]! z8 Q) |
* Performs routine maintenance on equipment and lab husbandry
) |, W# ~% f8 c$ Q: W * Orders supplies, maintains lab records, maintain WHMIS records and compliance labeling, maintains lab inventory and safe disposal of chemicals4 f& o7 X$ o# k! s. f
* Provides safety training to students, staff and visitors using the lab
8 {: `8 i1 L, f6 }. z3 h * Provides administrative support by maintaining records, (usage and expenses) and prepares invoices
& {6 J4 Q$ o& s% N/ q * Assists with laser ablation analyses on the multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS)

Qualifications, [9 ^( C: z5 f8 |- j
4 V4 o4 t# z' m w( c
* Post Secondary diploma in laboratory technology, Chemistry or Earth Sciences; BSc in Geology or Chemistry preferred
5 J5 ^7 C( r1 a: q * 1-2 years experience working in a research environment (analytical chemistry lab or geochemical lab)
4 i9 i9 W0 E) ]" D1 k! s( i+ W, U3 ?3 } * Computer proficiency using MS Office applications and Corel" m- ~7 d' Y$ H) F9 I- T4 e
* A thorough knowledge of lab safety protocols and WHMIS procedures& f* ]0 G$ ?* J: @4 V. V: U9 x; N
* Experience conducting routine maintenance on standard rock sample preparation equipment" E/ n7 r# i5 o& K9 o2 k
