how to show emotion

when someone tells me sth. sad or bad, i want to say sth, but the funny mistake I made is : sorry about that.

I thought it means I'm sorry to hear that, but the respones is : it's not your fault,

i guess it is ok to say that “i am sorry to hear that" or "sorry about..." or "i am sad to hear...”

不对呀,楼上的,当我说"sorry about that",人家的回答是:it's not your fault.

' x9 R" }3 I3 H( L$ r( @很显然:sorry about that 的意思绝非:听到这消息很遗憾或很抱歉,而且"很对不起",因此人家会说:这不是你的错.

"I am sorry" or "Sorry about that" is the simplified usage of "I am sorry to hear that".  Although the respones is " It's not your fault," IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT!
