The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

Responsibilities include:' M2 V1 s# r/ v. a% `
" N' `; f: z$ }; q, M' o1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)$ K9 Q1 y+ r. O+ p/ c: O4 m
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department! c. `7 ~0 I+ X7 r
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
# n- n/ z9 L7 z8 Z% }8 c6 ^• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored1 |/ F: S& q# X+ i
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals+ `; Y. K- B* U$ A8 U7 m9 O9 C
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
9 U9 C$ a7 d2 q; o3 ^4 R* O• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.7 X; u! g/ z5 n8 ?1 Y
6 m A9 B3 ^- \2 @3. Tracking System
$ O) }$ r. z: J7 V% v L# c% f% u• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

! n) U( o: k0 ~5 E( H7 X3 DCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.
