- c3 q- x l0 o/ EThe Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

]% [' T, x. i' o; w/ ^; F$ y1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
7 G9 e* M1 s5 [8 D• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department# x V2 F2 C8 l! r
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals' g P/ o) G( g- W+ x
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
6 A) \) _+ N+ d8 E, }/ ~, j( a• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
0 t4 h% `/ t# g& V, j3 B• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.3 x4 I( `! k( I+ h

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
: s) X% r$ K8 c2 _# w7 F• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

3. Tracking System2 j* n/ i; V* Q, y* u
• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

8 `! u' d# R; r" hCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

5 W) y4 ?5 ]9 v8 X- @+ K, pThis is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
