bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
- i; U/ f" X, l7 lemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
y; H/ V: Z: I0 c' qprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
0 A y) H# t6 W+ }. L/ A9 T3 z' bstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
8 Z+ H. e* F; ?+ f" kYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our+ |1 a0 ]: `- m. Q! }! M! r+ v
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
- w0 V! R3 H- f5 Q Aconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the2 O) \) c2 f/ S" g
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
. i8 h, z/ S7 U; F/ k9 [! Enecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve2 E5 z6 L0 Y; \7 c& M
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
' J7 Y! p! a4 X! fparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment: H& e/ ], {: ^7 _0 k, r
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
& G( ~: b4 f: Dexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
2 V+ N/ h( b! \% R4 E' | _wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
! j5 t# p' o" d8 T6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.3 M: q4 ` e- O
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
2 A" M4 \" S }4 e U4 [YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
7 P+ {+ K# N1 y# }The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week); U% ~. N* [# v/ z
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
b9 T2 L4 ]( z" Tcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
7 B |8 D+ ~: k6 U1 c) D4 @willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities' t1 F6 b8 n/ g1 A
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
/ C' ?6 F8 F5 z5 f) [+ G5 gbeing realistic to each youth participant! R2 r& z e) |$ h2 w% L
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the+ C5 k0 o# F* I1 c; }2 o$ ?# z
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to1 a$ P- e" ?9 r/ I! |1 |4 H- M
each participant0 N3 d, m8 O, T" E0 y9 O- H
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of, K9 f9 s, }) ]" l/ A
cover letters and resumes etc.
& e0 D O. v; H7 l0 p( H( T9 b• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work# u2 W8 V' O7 h U& x
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the+ I( Q- Q+ X- L7 X
placements" s! C% q! I/ e) ^& B" ?# Y
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
" u8 o. }8 u' ]& W, w* c% Q9 [the process, and supporting the youth where needed
" H& c# ^* i4 a• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
2 ~% B/ ~, x, K( Pis being fulfilled for each youth
& V4 H/ o) f9 d& e• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are# `" K" s5 i7 L3 Y G
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted/ Q& o6 E0 O% \. w' h, a6 b. G
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
