3 ]/ A3 F+ W- H( Femployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day% l3 O% U. y; V# |' p! w
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that8 |/ D4 f9 v( {& ?% G
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence., |/ n0 s" L" d" E4 X: }( T9 l# I" H
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our+ e% `. Y/ Y9 v' @; r7 n
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve8 |: o7 S$ @3 L& l; |" {* \
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the. J: ~4 S; h) r& y0 K" e0 K
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills9 l4 ~& j i L W, ^
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve! U& y. }# ^& e. ~
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose1 i& R# q4 x; Y* c Z$ q
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
. ]) i; K/ u6 h w( B7 H. w' Hdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and) Q9 d4 @0 D; o0 K7 X7 \0 ~$ z
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and+ j+ \1 F9 k6 [5 ~8 y
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a0 D6 L% G. p. f; N3 i& m$ j; ?
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.6 g' x+ D/ v5 g: C0 d1 n8 N" _7 B
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
, U, }# K S: x$ N4 ^ O% gYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
( P( p) h9 N. Q; Y/ Pcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
: `. X9 S1 G& d- m1 K2 Ewilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
) W. O# a% w! `; y1 Z$ q• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as( G3 h- {! k$ ]: s2 \- c$ W! G
being realistic to each youth participant3 G- `& h4 p1 w' I |; N
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
0 ] k* T* A$ X& Tyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to- m! }, U6 E+ r- s
each participant
' M3 h2 i4 F( K$ b; G• Assist youth with employment development including the development of! q" W( D1 I7 A- O- s% s" N
cover letters and resumes etc.- P. i: w3 ~6 p
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
?+ ]* ~2 M* G1 _( I9 e# h0 oexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the' x* o3 D2 p1 l% E8 @. h
placements
' A1 L4 z" I I% E- \% m; k: c• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating. D, j( P% T9 K' `+ X3 g5 B! }. k
the process, and supporting the youth where needed. L, P5 k( V8 O9 p- p3 E- C! B
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach/ `3 r6 ^. U0 o6 D9 s
is being fulfilled for each youth0 o! W: i# A, Q( F3 `' ?! @
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
8 y3 [/ C. x- N$ y0 {, e' W; s7 hrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project4 \0 {% ?$ n- S( D* r4 y# v$ g
• Other tasks as they arise within the position4 G9 P$ ~" K3 n
Experience Required: Employment Developer
8 @/ _" n0 t* t' P# ^1 | Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted- R9 W. I) j# K5 `% t
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
