Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.

* J: Z1 t) C0 A•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.

& ]) L: W2 r/ V" R•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
; e, R0 u) A2 n•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
' d3 x  e8 ~1 Q# r9 Z2 `•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
1 Y. Q: K5 H  l' e/ H5 {•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
: @( u& `5 \7 |, K1 fto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
* m; `' H+ x0 k! z4 b1 x' Y•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
  [: ^/ u% \* K1 `7 Q0 ]showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
8 @4 q6 i0 C) ?# j  q3 o•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
/ X0 b! y7 v9 V6 O! {video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
% H$ H* f2 x3 g" i•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
, @. S9 v  |- \: }4 Y7 @1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly
