' s2 f0 a# A( W! DEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

8 s) c6 m. i6 _6 eFUNCTIONS:
& q0 v  v1 p  l7 p$ t' g, d. e8 ?•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
" O# ?( i* g  N" e& Z•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
% ~& B1 w* b4 C9 Dand traffic conditions.
. @0 i4 y) e& [% h•        Adhere to schedules.
6 G2 G) |* |6 h: k% h; @1 x•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
# r0 ^9 G. F9 }: M) P7 qto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
% c2 m( L$ k' `& X7 i9 L) tof the day.
( F& N2 t; d- h9 [6 \4 ]; i* q# U•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
3 L% i# Y6 ]- O•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
- k) Y$ ^: }" Y3 ]2 Y+ @( ?2 Ishowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
3 W) b. S, V  [; Y# O; Dvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

% K$ }2 A/ v. QVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
6 x# T5 D# e: ?" ?1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
, H9 W( @4 d( a8 dThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
! D2 T7 U5 M( f4 n0 w, N( X( Y( QThe rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
