1 A. W) p7 r: T3 ?JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
! E' Y( t4 t! h2 }; Sthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
4 w" |. w) b6 u" @2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  % F1 x: T* [2 a# K
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  + O1 ]" t4 b7 }$ [% v# a$ y5 h
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
$ v# Z! _) l/ F% z3 cyear following their appointment.

" Q' R% c9 }  v/ C% V3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

1 A. u& o2 t9 x* h( y5 r8 [# u4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
- C9 `5 `: b  q5 V8 o3 |adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
& n+ o- ]: X. ~& jacross campus, and advertising the poll locations.

5 f) K5 @) f: A6 z5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/ 9 F; F5 U) s& r/ o# {
referenda.

7 S0 W9 }1 {9 }( }8 u6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  ; a; ~0 `8 H) }. {
parties.

+ N  f: H  k& o7 }, l7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
% e) k! p* m# C; f2 T# s' Lreferendum.

4 s, _- [' b9 r' o8 ^ To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  6 t/ Y" w. R  b  Z) n
Bylaw 2000.

! H- [* x* f, B! B# k7 y: D10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
& Q: ~9 g, O6 D! e" R( N( r; n8 uminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  ; l) ]/ K9 V: T5 u) @1 X7 p
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
) I$ z4 ?. ?: d5 l5 Vof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.: K7 ^1 i. r8 V/ A

2 s2 ~  p3 ~$ h5 B. H# Q; i2 q, @* x11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
3 o% ]" g' z4 Z! e) Kthe course of an election/referendum.& f; H& W5 c4 v$ g) ?# B

12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  ' \: |9 d4 U- d+ f. q, g
process is in place.

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  0 ^; S, c9 J; z  J0 s: Q
of activities and recommendations.0 ], Q4 `4 }" B& U& @

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  ) ~+ m5 B. S' I( p1 c0 I

QUALIFICATIONS:+ o( ~; W; J9 m4 }1 W: i

1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
& h2 P" n8 f0 T! Q- t7 E' W' Afor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  ; m8 G" O" k& Y: G- E) a
Union member.# W  K: [/ n3 [) Q' y
, ]7 [& y3 x2 E+ q, e
2) Must have some experience in student elections.* F9 f1 G' ], |: w! Y* D
8 w/ ?; q& B# c5 \( b
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  / T/ M- v5 J  i  Y5 f. ~6 U
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
- i6 {, Y) {' m! {, E; N% Y3 Qwith the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.! ?6 e3 U1 n$ v8 ]3 u4 P. ~+ ?

5) Excellent project management skills are required.
