) K/ e' ]0 {3 O* _3 YJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  ; E, N8 g) J; A% q* n% n
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
4 I! B9 v" x$ |9 ?2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
. |* W7 Y8 A% E. e. W4 \Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
1 x9 g) }& A% A0 t8 Z6 M( S7 t7 k5 ?8 _Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the    R9 t4 }1 ?& \% P
year following their appointment.' F7 L) y' @- y4 A# ]* I

2 E6 [7 d" C$ G% L0 ]& ^6 wDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000, i: m2 Y% ~, q' L6 H9 r

5 N* g, U' D3 U2 Q2 R2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.: s5 K+ o1 n$ `8 {* x. l2 h

# x) Z' d( p& _, |! F3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties." d4 y. E+ h* e$ C
1 T. \8 ^* f# i4 ~4 d/ ]( }: i
4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
7 `# I' [# V7 a7 p. Vadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
4 J( H9 P! v6 O+ wacross campus, and advertising the poll locations.' D  M+ X4 C8 H% H

* q, ~1 E% r) [' \5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
7 ~8 b  e4 J! v& E: D0 jreferenda.$ x1 Y% Y& X( }* R) N& P$ V

7 Y7 r2 m8 P7 a6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
" ^9 t& s1 k: S8 u' |: Fparties.

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/

9 `6 C. \" W. L6 T, X To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
" i) M! ]) G! W! @( Z2 PBylaw 2000.1 S% W0 B4 V  }, w7 o! b' f
9 T8 B8 W. x5 y
10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  $ b8 o: P6 }' M; S
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  $ c" ~# X6 N- y% A1 e. l, f
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  . X7 }: }! |) s; o
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.
- G8 W; L6 }$ F9 t, E( b: h% |+ n; q/ g0 Z0 s% f% L- L  g
11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  $ n; z4 ?3 ]1 N' T
the course of an election/referendum.5 q1 M1 m$ S: Q( q

( U7 c$ |, @5 p- J: P4 u12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
/ n( o* O% U( K- ^1 ^* Iprocess is in place.6 f7 g5 ^$ n6 _2 J* R- s

( D2 @4 h2 A6 X, F# \4 S. L13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
5 A( {: X4 A, Lof activities and recommendations.
) ^7 @; n' b' f
) F$ j! k  R0 `) _6 U+ z14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
) H& J" V. N! w# b& U. j1 Wof campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  
) }+ |2 W1 D( r4 BAdministration Committee.

QUALIFICATIONS:
3 |2 f3 ?/ {" b9 `) z" K
8 u; _# E3 D* W, Q0 V( s1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
& H2 d7 O# P- p, T0 ^; }for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  1 M$ t0 P7 o. c# V/ j
Union member.
% ^7 P3 u$ E0 m2 j6 f$ Z" m  [, K2 |5 r" ]- L+ {4 F
2) Must have some experience in student elections.: d, d% A( |. n

% `; y/ z) F" k# z4 r$ X% P3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
: g" J. y; V" Tany of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
3 N6 i$ d. G) D1 @3 qwith the Students' Union.6 U+ l1 q& u: H7 ~

2 w% c( q- I' ^4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

: f8 F" u1 L* @2 {9 i5) Excellent project management skills are required.5 @, [3 [2 a5 e/ ]4 V( h

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University
