JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
, d5 r; G% Z2 |, d  P! a: ]the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
% R* E& I' t! ?3 c# ^9 \0 W7 \2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
* ]( R# ?; c# x/ }! Y& nCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
8 d! _  V' k  M& P, hyear following their appointment.

4 n) |, k& v  f5 zDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000

2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

" C3 s5 s/ v/ P1 i9 H5 I$ q0 }3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
5 O+ N/ j5 R1 U; E6 r' radequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
. [7 k/ N4 M- z( kacross campus, and advertising the poll locations.

5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
9 s5 N, x* W! ]referenda.

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
3 o; @0 ]+ W* ?! Q1 g- B4 oparties.

7 I  C' S  R0 S& H* C* C2 ]7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
referendum.

1 ^/ c: ]' Z" J- U+ o To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
Bylaw 2000.
# ^  }9 c" c& \+ U* F
10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
9 s8 s( Q" u4 e, y# {  l8 ^$ oof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
the course of an election/referendum.

( O# f5 t' Y: h0 n5 V12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
; [: n- {8 B" _' v, `process is in place.

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
: u  [; w* L% `2 zof campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  
Administration Committee.

QUALIFICATIONS:

& _" }* J6 ?) B: Q1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
9 U$ d' R( }' o+ e8 Q. cfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
, k9 V- h0 l9 S0 VUnion member.

2) Must have some experience in student elections.

5 X4 _( Q0 H3 P& y- G3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
+ l, Y) |3 q/ X) C+ m: I4 Y/ ]with the Students' Union.

( @* p7 `- L. P1 x" [4 W$ F4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

9 G3 `9 I, y/ r& X: O, }5) Excellent project management skills are required.

( m, a* I+ H/ Q. K4 e$ v5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
' h& S; ]3 z4 X: Y& ~5 jstaff, students and the general public.
