　　North country scene:
                                                                                               
　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

　　Both sides of the Great Wall

　　One single white immensity.

& C( R" y' p/ t1 j) \! O　　The Yellow River"s swift current
- o( U& i( u% ^1 E
　　Is stilled from end to end.
+ T+ ^6 |( I- ~' q& s8 m- \
　　The mountains dance like silver snakes

) D/ u8 [2 p  G: d　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,

. x/ H0 j4 a9 |% }　　Vying with heaven in stature.

0 `- Z7 Q3 g$ [　　On a fine day, the land,

　　Clad in white, adorned in red,

　　Grows more enchanting.

　　This land so rich in beauty

" u& ]9 |0 g" z　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.

　　Were lacking in literary grace,

　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu

　　And Genghis Khan,

6 x$ Q1 J4 x; _/ P( n( r1 ]　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,
4 x- v, j9 g8 t7 w  r5 e
) ~6 e  _% H. h" A9 l6 I9 Y　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched
/ a8 _5 D& \, R9 O* A. J' v
　　All are past and gone!

- A& C0 J9 n. U' P- u" B　　Look to this age alone.
