Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
4 C5 U# o( t J) R/ V% Z" wnot do any of the following:
. L4 g x" |" G2 u# @4 s(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
: c7 y3 _( S" ovehicle is an insured motor vehicle;6 L+ ^ H7 P5 ]
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
' o7 @; V6 R/ w' L, D. ^+ Nvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
9 @/ e# ~+ _ j7 T+ \$ i(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
/ T# e' ~8 w/ B6 ?4 ]9 P# vpermit another person- ~& ?/ Q& D. ?/ N
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or8 Q5 J! l0 s# y) k. W
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
% D+ U) I5 W$ Z. n, L5 O, Yunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;

# S0 H# v% `1 X% j2 ~( nresponsibility card or a copy of it
; @# a6 k. A6 J1 f' a4 Uto a person not entitled to have that financial/ N9 y" y) `& e2 q

9 W& P3 r+ \; U; @If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway: ~4 }( Q! P$ ~% x1 }' K
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
' J- s8 q* A# R( f" }/ @) dthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
- z @5 @2 j3 E+ s(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is; ]% q# S7 g* s1 k+ b
not an insured motor vehicle.

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this

8 e' G' H) x2 F7 Z) a' n& d# ASubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a! N) A! q) B4 g P$ w0 z) }
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
' s. p! A3 j" _) R9 j1 [' N, Y* }! GInsurance Act# Y9 R* }" h+ u1 @" e( f7 V
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy1 ?/ e, U5 k; b1 N/ L \
outside Alberta.
9 q; y$ R5 z, k: b(4)* I5 ?* B+ `, R1 t
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection. Y% Z. u# f9 I* z
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
4 H5 m; {2 Y3 S- N(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500# Q1 K9 E9 X) E% l0 d
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
2 n& V) h3 J1 g& I7 [3 R& `imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not/ r6 R/ ^0 {, J, |: g4 L Z
more than 6 months
4 K3 E7 ~. V. j2 a: ]7 R3 f, n N, I3 F: S
Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
