Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
; [6 F2 a0 x. Q2 h3 pnot do any of the following:
p: H4 ^% Z9 |( z9 r' ?$ q1 R(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
* K1 v. W; W/ t. V v/ Nvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
/ |3 m' ?8 d. ^# z! h(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
$ b% s7 g' t. f* w# l8 E% Mvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
' M; r$ ]8 j* ^ _, }6 W' C(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
" s' u; o2 E3 J! m5 R; jpermit another person- M0 Q3 W2 s( h( _% {1 H$ S! ~
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or9 s& X7 w. q7 U4 B
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,+ M+ F% F. d- g7 Y- M. _0 }* ]
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;* j3 |) v, d v" L& L7 c
(d) give or lend a financial
- \# J+ I/ ^. C8 M8 H1 ~responsibility card or a copy of it9 ?0 e. S( Y. f$ z# F8 M$ i& g
to a person not entitled to have that financial0 I. R2 t* E5 \$ |5 f
responsibility card or copy.

6 ]& K8 v: w9 H7 W, [: wIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
: r8 j7 F4 j. K0 S. p. e Cwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
3 p, Q) v% \ C6 z) h6 Vthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
0 Z( G; a2 h2 o: {(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is" t0 d! d6 t: H; @: W' v
not an insured motor vehicle.

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this/ V1 A- w: c/ E
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this8 k% A" \% K. A+ ^( X* L
section.
8 B. q+ ^0 ]0 b& U& C1 O6 M7 s8 Q: C3 o(3)/ |+ ~0 q5 T1 |2 U
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
4 O0 F6 u# Q/ _- @$ afinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the( a6 x. I/ Y# {/ R7 V1 d5 [* {) \
Insurance Act% e9 A2 B2 x7 h4 [) _8 A
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
Z: k3 |) |9 H! |outside Alberta.$ y( t0 V8 ]1 f$ n
(4)) @0 P# I: n4 U q+ v
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
! k( T! r. U: Y# C, c9 |(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,7 x5 a; Z, u' f
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500' [2 j' ]: N( J1 ~6 q
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
' `* ?' q4 ^5 w( E$ zimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not8 g$ r$ D7 Y( z' y
more than 6 months

- c6 _: D, K/ T, x( O TMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
