美国人平时生活上所用的一些口头禅,其实字句都很简单,但是如果不加说明,往往还会让人一知半解或似懂非懂。下面所举的例子,即是常常听到的一些美语口头禅。3 y" ], t) @& n9 B5 L2 }

8 [" b/ Z/ N8 [        1. I couldn't care less.
# A* R6 ]! f" _8 y  D* Q/ k, [' {5 r9 }$ T# f$ D; T
I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如:
6 i; W" ], R( o, v" K
: m) U! N& U6 N+ q1 L3 S% ~2 g( a  人家如果问: What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?)
  m% _0 S" y4 B) ~, y# u- N
6 o# F5 T+ J& D" k, C  你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎)
5 ]0 D. X( y$ {8 `  e+ b+ |6 l
8 E7 t7 ^3 C0 ~* a  How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?)
+ d2 N7 o# O* \0 p, k: @: k8 ^2 R9 K
  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!)
- J$ |" N0 i* S$ ?7 ~* J: Z8 b) l
8 _% s4 r7 Z5 K* I!

& i6 Z# g7 h5 o& U0 W2 W4 K  I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪)
& `7 Q4 G; X( e  S8 F$ s4 |; x! j3 Y; F/ Z8 S) @3 h  q1 _% N
Yes, you do(care).
. R6 q. z3 T( B. E) h5 D
' p" T8 s; s' s0 i# K  至于 I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理: & Y7 V0 L* y) c$ R# H

- q" g  E: c' s; V5 `6 Y# x0 j  I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意) 4 L5 y* P; Q& I! \* y
7 e' P! `( G! N6 ?! g
  I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴) ; _  h3 h' K, b) u. \4 K, L: b% T& ?
1 v* a/ _* L* \2 z! I
  I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right. / v2 H; ]& c/ Z: U* L( b$ {
7 v: w3 H' D  p* g

9 b' v' }. ]! V4 X  I couldn't be more wrong.
/ g: ?/ w/ s2 {4 r1 v" O; r1 X5 N& i* Q, a5 Y8 }* d" E
3 [3 q) N4 @$ M, T& b9 L% P- A0 t
: S, Q" L: K9 A% H
I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) , y" C- T4 B! n  u
% U  Z: a2 Y3 r4 k5 n- S
  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。)
* \  Z" u1 U% Z" j) E5 t. I6 u9 B& T  ]
  2. No bones about it.
2 B- ~/ X8 N/ k$ N5 [3 w
; y" X5 @0 m  A# w2 a  意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如: ' Q' h/ w# t+ r: ^! w" @

: b. l, m, r& o0 s0 S  His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮) 9 q  @+ p3 O& z2 ^8 e' V

0 X! t& G! X2 W' r3 B7 \  Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。)
( G# F' d* N- w  ?( m8 X: n, h+ Q' e0 X* Y: m# \
  When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法)
& _7 u3 Z  O& W9 q2 s6 W
/ O7 H6 j' B5 |; ^) O  U# A  No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了)
6 i( d$ x% v1 Z8 ^0 z# Z" ~& ?3 o& U) b: g
  3. take it on me!
2 h8 Q' c1 L7 ?2 T
$ o7 T: y! ~; J1 ]7 V  意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如:
. D, M) H% u" {; v2 V- S+ F2 B6 ]5 y! D2 y. {$ ?! h% g
  Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (这是来自英国的糖果,尝一个吧!) (one = candy) 2 u$ e6 ?5 Y, q7 I9 K5 {
/ V# j% U: \' W2 [5 K& R
  The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me." % ?4 k. X( c% M* F* T  o

2 Z6 O6 Y' g- X/ X9 l3 B  Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!) ! K  `/ Y0 K2 C  x. Z0 ?

6 S4 k* F3 Z% F; v6 z/ {4 z6 [: A  可见 take 后面的 it,是指 something,而 on 的后面通常不指别人,所以多半也只用在第一人称单数 me。 4 _. }/ _1 g. w' f& X
; ]% j, k- o0 W4 ]
  (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.) , t( j' I9 Z1 h4 d4 V* ~
( x8 R, w6 g, \
  4. I am from Missouri.
: s" Z9 b. Z- q( X+ Z3 K) h1 X9 p2 o9 k* o2 X
  这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。 7 l; v+ P8 N: R  y
, Y; J" C# D- d4 d
6 V" N( C3 T( c* \' H2 z$ v4 L
  He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. 4 H8 R$ w4 W& n0 b, W

2 \7 Q, k: Q5 ]2 R4 n2 X- Y  Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.)
4 P; K( E, l% z  x4 Z! {; d& G4 m9 W
  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown.
0 ]# R- ?  t# M9 b- _  A
- c1 A! ~  a2 o, E+ a7 {  As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri.
