6 r4 Y) E, Q3 B ^! B8 \) R
s. Q- ]5 B" J5 o( A" r9 [
1. I couldn't care less.
+ a* I/ ~1 o5 Q" S$ F/ Y- @5 l
I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如: 6 a4 k# j2 ?! B. [+ u" c, t) I$ g
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?) 8 R3 u/ D7 g3 [7 S$ f
1 h4 K6 R. F5 h6 ^1 |
# B3 f, A) f/ n2 ]8 Y% B
, S# M8 k. u$ y2 h" B+ K- S9 H How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?) ' s4 C5 e6 E+ K
6 v$ y: c, s& F6 e6 c$ G, P) s- t I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!) 6 N- D G6 r1 o1 H, N8 p7 k
' I; M4 h- ]- L) Q
) K, o3 l# W3 ]9 }5 P: O I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) 2 ~- w8 i! o. R1 ^2 [! V0 |0 w0 o% c( e
Yes, you do(care). 2 A! `# E4 h& b3 v
/ }3 @" ` G: S4 S" J
至于 I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. Q, s" d$ K) k' N4 S- Q8 k
8 q& g7 y8 \+ C: Q9 }% t9 |
I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意)
- Z7 |1 P8 l* b3 o. F* d% [: U) M( t3 M. `& g7 q/ C: \7 f
I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
2 I$ m I! {( d, s
s- D1 {/ H- a# `3 u I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right. , t$ k$ A3 F& x9 Y' c
: E- \! S: L, J6 h/ V0 T0 y
6 }, x1 {: }: v& I I couldn't be more wrong.
! g- m5 O: P# N! _& v! [7 T5 ] b$ G# E' z; D9 R$ k! m
6 u. `3 `; V ~/ N8 |+ x$ v7 w4 B4 a# v" S
I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少)
/ j+ q6 I& I* C! U5 R$ H0 [; R, r+ M2 w% f
I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。)
7 ?1 i, n% Y5 S7 m L3 _; z m/ S H, ~" I# ]
2. No bones about it. $ r. @/ K3 M" j; i. N. l/ J
9 f4 M3 N* ~( N( U2 d( a0 u3 N 意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如:
) V+ |2 I; ^# f
. X& e, s/ V" X His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮)
+ f8 \8 O' f& V* h7 L" W
9 ~$ h6 w6 a, h( q; g- k1 D g1 |" B Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。) * b5 h4 C1 u7 Z; P2 h
% u. M( J1 o e. x, I! g When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法) / B" G* N- s" A1 d0 ?- C" Z
: k% a0 u V% Q4 \% b* Q' h$ X: S/ ^ No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了) ; H! z& [0 w3 l9 U v0 D. [/ t
9 u; v! E1 G0 K
3. take it on me!
4 R& w& M( Z- A, w' @/ Y- y( f& \$ |3 h) [; C# N5 \$ ~3 d
意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如: " [4 k9 p0 i- g+ M5 ?2 L
/ M9 V: V, q4 r, \- d Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy)
' u: _5 X8 G2 e8 |2 ]# ]3 w* z% z" y2 _ \& K3 [9 E/ p" p
The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me."
" ]& i5 R. d# ]. e& y$ ~" s) f
/ y- w/ S$ I4 ]2 i4 ] Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!)
3 J; f$ T: R: h t+ H3 h
) g- A) e! l- ?4 E 可见 take 后面的 it,是指 something,而 on 的后面通常不指别人,所以多半也只用在第一人称单数 me。 - c" _9 d- J& M! |# ~' Z
# Q; J: Y7 y2 r' p. e$ X (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.)
# w5 A& e4 Z% R0 O3 I" ~/ f6 U4 Q# I* W
4. I am from Missouri.
R3 d5 o7 Z' E. L" n8 [! |1 k* d; Q
这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。
# H( K. l5 v1 h4 b) f
: e2 E* p' F; s9 W) \* S+ E5 r% L4 |# P0 u( Z5 c; R d
He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri.
1 L# }& X2 k0 X* x& s+ x+ X8 v% l: R4 ~
+ K0 h- t2 D; W2 L Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) 1 {' t/ [4 y, r0 D3 `) s
% p4 x; x' P2 F" Z
We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown. / T. u0 w4 ]2 J9 A2 U) `
& I% a4 b& M- ]! `* x: ?$ p As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith |
