of the new Nikon D800. Established medium-format image quality is

- z2 B6 j; ?% Smegapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution
2 l1 X- J1 W( {4 a+ m ^/ ~/ bwithin a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color
$ N" B- @; p, v, [3 E. Rmatrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
: F$ y2 [8 ?$ l: s9 Kin low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800) q7 }# Z, K* C# l/ W1 }
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject) ]0 e) e5 S. e2 t6 _
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
3 T- g2 w* |; x( F& Zwas traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum
% D2 M% ^/ K2 k: c- b, _" o8 L" _image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was. A5 s! x* v; d5 U& p* `
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and+ `/ }6 U9 j5 j+ J4 I w f
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown( o; O- e5 G6 I8 F; ~
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,
9 Q V, W+ k5 n7 m4 R, N/ \thanks to the D800.
. d$ W9 L2 D+ Q1 J$ R$ fWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,8 m# c+ `; x2 P/ `# q5 n. A! o
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic, o/ y: o& x, p* k+ f( x9 f
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces7 u1 u5 c5 a& n q
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a/ e+ i$ N' ?& t" ~
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as
9 r# S) Y& { `# g+ jwell as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.; T5 B) `7 M6 r" I* I
Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
. c3 F2 l4 Q) W) u. hhas noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is9 i* F5 q9 ]9 R& N( j# Q
easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while( D1 X$ G2 [4 D6 Z. |
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New1 j g' d4 m+ P. Q S5 M4 Z, L% k# M
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features: V/ B5 _" H% K0 `! m
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality+ [8 b" _& l1 s3 H" T
prints and video.8 J8 u/ K; E C" N6 L4 ?
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
# y9 w2 y7 x: m6 r0 N" d! x1 X. a# ~" snot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models
6 R+ j! P: L' V xare important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
% i: c I4 E9 J1 Y( b' p) s* {countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
& z, Q2 ^& [8 Qsight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws s, e9 h6 p3 ~6 V
like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of- S; @$ n: z- g) q- J# j1 q
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I. B, A+ S, c5 S- U" _8 Z" `3 n
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as; j& x, S* H8 ^* R; P. W8 s8 z, ~
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse+ \- p7 h; c4 s) z$ V" e" }
photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add$ v5 B' I7 E+ y
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the
" D k1 a" V; p: u, k* x' wD800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express; n w/ O8 L; m
is that now I will think differently about the images I make.
# Z/ ^/ z0 _$ ~" W- I m0 uAs a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,+ L5 d! @+ }( v: _/ [" W$ M
compact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal$ }. \! [! ~' ^$ \' z" X* e
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for
( n+ B5 Z5 F% qthe high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital2 L1 V: F, a5 ^! x4 E( y
camera that produces images with such exceptional quality and detail till
( G: y9 U: G/ _0 u5 w# X: i4 H- ?/ Wnow. Particularly, the live view mode enables extremely precise compositions
* o' t* `* g( S( _$ C N. k5 {and easy focusing in dim lighting, which simplifies my workflow. Superior& [4 z( _3 \2 ^0 C6 c
quality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for0 v% |8 l7 F1 F8 z3 l
architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they
% E7 F6 |! [: b. \7 x" P0 @perfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly6 V' k O3 r. a# u
clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility* Y4 _( j0 U( u: @9 y* e+ n
to work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional
7 a: U0 z, Y2 k& a* V6 l% @range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality
