Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3. A/ [- n& K, P3 N: s# W, J. x1 q
megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution, a0 b# K3 }# \7 v1 F
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color
+ d: A' L+ P+ W# M6 Y& [# S6 Ematrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
! z/ M( k( ?+ ]2 J) d1 d- b sin low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800: l0 z- T* {3 V. m& T5 C& C7 m
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject/ Z6 n$ j% H+ f5 V5 g5 \
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
5 I$ q9 K! A6 M' k4 m# Wwas traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum
/ l/ X0 w1 Z( uimage quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was

convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown; h, I) h+ s% p3 _$ ]; _+ ]
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,

k0 `1 n- N# p0 c7 x5 s) \+ b3 XWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,2 M3 F! Q2 z4 P" C- @+ i' J

range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces

has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
% y" y0 i4 Q& Q/ R( }easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
) u2 a4 l& A; i, \% ualso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New5 P. o3 E% m. |, g) I
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
4 J5 n0 v# Z, C8 tin such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality) @8 j/ c. z( u8 W! C
prints and video.
# V4 {( A5 c! B; vTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is+ D& W; T- m P# \
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models
L7 ^7 N, W; Eare important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
, Z# t/ x) l/ l; hcountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
, x& B4 G7 U) Qsight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
' T/ H+ n" T) P6 @7 M' I( hlike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of$ d/ \& K1 `! I
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I J- V4 g$ n6 H- B
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as
( q, \4 ?, P* P% n8 Wthough they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse- E; y6 p% l, T( k4 ?
photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add
6 u. d1 v% U* J, M) m1 Ztremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the
% c; S9 y1 B A1 Z9 B+ \; c) eD800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express& v; ~2 d3 B) l
is that now I will think differently about the images I make.
$ g/ u3 W6 |) {: ~As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,
7 c8 L6 v8 u N# wcompact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal: S6 e9 @) n- \/ x( d/ o0 S
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for

architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they

; l F2 n" @) Cclean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility
