Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

, r9 {2 u# z1 t. @. Qnow inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3, l- \. h! N' R% J- e+ r
megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution/ m9 F0 W, C, [8 t0 r
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color! y6 f) [0 w8 l" h* s8 S; x
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance9 ]5 X6 g' I; z0 V7 \
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D8001 t% J9 o9 M) Y& ?4 y+ R" s4 K" N
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject! _8 ?6 v+ O' R$ }9 T) \1 b, f7 P
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
: x, T$ |0 M; g- Uwas traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum: m$ M7 V( |% r0 r
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was
# v, J& B2 d" [1 f+ a0 y/ Hwidely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
8 p& R3 S# k. |% z0 n3 uconvenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
/ q4 [# L( F# O; V8 s& q' wbefore, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,
$ @6 N% P5 \* y9 g" b1 Gthanks to the D800.1 V6 R& e6 ~& M8 B4 [
When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
6 J* ~' w. Q0 N9 ]+ X. B36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
' y i+ f2 X1 _range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces6 l8 A! ?5 f3 A7 l
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a% u9 T: i$ f. R ^5 z( X
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as
7 N3 e& ?/ w$ e* E( K% wwell as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
( O3 g4 F3 \2 ZAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
4 |% r+ e8 O4 X- uhas noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is& j3 K/ j! Z# S# Y4 I
easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
; R; ~% X' f" e- P. Falso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New
; L9 ]+ g- V9 Hcameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features; d4 M: U! J- U
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality" P( z8 M8 o4 ^
prints and video.
( q, y1 x+ d0 n3 w' ~+ [To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
1 k4 l% |5 F" u* M; F1 xnot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models
* o0 ~* f7 e4 M: Y7 {6 l/ @* J/ Qare important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
4 T7 _- ?7 v3 m: ]" p) ]countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first5 F# G3 z# Q* K; B" V7 I
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
4 n; U+ `6 `) dlike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of
# [2 I7 z7 W- ]/ P" Iacuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
. I/ j, x' }$ [ B0 u$ Z% Gam enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as; J3 W- j# [& E/ s! ^% o7 b
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse, G; {; g& g8 j
photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add
/ x' s+ _" M6 jtremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the) }6 \1 [: X5 x( O; m7 ^8 x* T
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express
% V0 `% }/ ~( ^7 B G" X, }is that now I will think differently about the images I make.
. y) o# p" s# v$ dAs a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,( i6 s, W/ ?0 l4 p- ^" O- X; [
compact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal: L0 m4 [1 M; Q" y! s8 a

, B" I+ I, \) a' g. b) jarchitectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they
; v, a- u6 K- ?6 L% @perfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly: V8 u3 c0 X, M- k9 F3 l( E, e) {) m
clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility
; a- t& b6 B: Q. J1 Vto work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional
) R' g# ~" m" N% j' }4 I) @4 }( crange of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality
