Position Profile Heavy Duty Mechanics inspect, service, and maintain diesel locomotives in accordance with federal and company regulations.

They are also responsible for other important tasks, including:

Diagnosing diesel engine malfunctions and making indicated repairs
Operating machinery in a safe and effective manner
8 ?# {& a; c5 zProviding daily locomotive maintenance that includes changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts
  X1 }& x# k, A. N& kAssembling and starting engines
Diagnosing locomotive component malfunctions
Preparing inspection, work and maintenance reports

Good eye-hand coordination
Frequently lifting weights up to 50 pounds

Working shifts, sometimes away from home

* a3 ~) g  r* n1 J6 @2 Z& n2 NVisual acuity and hearing threshold tests are required for this position. Written pre-employment tests to become a Machinist Apprentice are required for this position. Completion of 3-year apprenticeship is required to become a Journeyman Machinist. This position is subject to night, weekend and holiday work hours when needed.

This is not a Red Seal apprenticeship.
