/ s+ L s @# a! B$ Y% G8 dRoles and Functions
! S) }* h' ?# D2 ]4 n `2 ]6 U4 P% HThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the6 A/ @3 \* ~4 N: X& ]" D
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
! `" j- H' v C+ {3 P7 q5 doperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
7 _3 n J% C8 A) Pthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
5 V; J, Y0 F( w) Q+ Doperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
' | o, U. r+ m; x) i% [board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is! n% W" Z/ a7 J" N* m8 J' e/ V8 E6 B
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an* K' I6 l% a* F' k9 E
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
( x3 }$ h2 Z$ g# G, i' t& ^staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
7 D9 W- y, r& T3 Sall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:! y1 S; h& V4 y; l5 ^
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
0 ^/ s9 E4 S4 s; \1 k5 i; xofficers of the Coalition
f+ f! Q. R2 A* ?8 U$ B2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural' ~4 Z# J& J0 O6 i2 w
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations. f4 S _6 t) {1 c9 O. n( n
and public institutions
4 h4 w$ d7 N& S& A3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
( C1 k9 W$ a+ d8 T+ B- i) jfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives" a0 f& m7 z" [3 h% D$ k% i
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
2 Q8 f5 p E i: Korganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with# @7 h' K# \! R: J# G

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
5 Y; F7 @: k' M2 f1 {with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

3 S8 X9 L' O8 e& {/ @Administrative responsibilities:: N; V' U8 [0 _% u& K6 M7 x" X
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its" v z7 |' z( A M
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
7 C- D8 j2 x0 {* H% udirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
; j5 w/ O/ S' S0 }2 K3 Vmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
5 M( k1 T$ g' X5 j3 u+ {: z2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the" J' W& ^# z* _
Multicultural Coalition$ l, }# f9 h* S* x
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
9 d- e( m8 L" L) h: S; E! WAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to7 F9 i" {. B- m, p
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating& _" O! v+ m9 ^7 d$ d" Y6 D8 |
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
7 |. ^0 e3 ?6 N, g4 ]* DThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and6 |9 J3 _: t9 G' [ O2 x6 m# M
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
' _1 e0 m- J7 V5 s8 hbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
2 `+ p# [4 F/ e3 ?participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
& j( N+ c4 v1 x8 \+ z( R3 w cfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
! T- |% u+ `. L/ L: g. y7 |directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
S- U8 Z/ b3 }; [6 D8 K' `( Kstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all( p8 l0 E$ Y9 g2 ~5 h6 r
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
6 H7 G3 e' g1 G$ g |# o4 xdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of: e% r: V7 D8 ]0 [! g9 z }

for the complex dynamics of emerging immigrant and refugee

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

8. A diploma or degree in Social Work, the Social Sciences, Public Health, or: w1 e! f5 v! G( K3 [
any related field is desired
