The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition' m$ s b) `' v0 N
Roles and Functions, c! ]6 k0 N5 p0 ^( Z
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
: u6 \ w0 B% N$ l) X) porganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
9 X) a+ O3 S1 F d; k0 Yoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has5 x3 V" x; ?! G' u5 w# z
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,9 ~, N9 L; n0 X
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
+ i+ c* n5 K& y" D% Z: jboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is1 w- W( \2 ^8 u% J- z: f
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
7 b: v8 M; N1 t* C) Aemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
' e' ^7 L& y+ S* D" Cstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend) F5 g# u1 B/ B
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
M% ~1 c" g8 A9 n1 VThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
& a! }2 Q! |6 e0 a1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
+ _0 x5 h4 N$ |, | qofficers of the Coalition
$ `7 d4 o" I% B3 ]2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
9 m( O4 A% {7 Y0 \4 dorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
, E: w0 G! @4 R( F: R; iand public institutions
: x* h' n; ]3 s+ `3 \4 N3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
) X# [( I/ K6 k# T$ [% ~funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives8 a% j, b% U+ b
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community0 q# Q3 w& {6 ` k% S) r* ]- P' H
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
+ V. U$ C* Z8 [5 ~+ n5 I$ R# @these organizations

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

diverse backgrounds

Administrative responsibilities:
! F9 f. e( y' G8 h4 O- \! E: }; W1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
8 n2 C# K: S8 m* P8 N, [regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of! W# i4 `" o& I0 C; g( P+ p( O) h5 y
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
* a9 v; T; e& Q9 N* f+ Zmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
2 R& ^' V1 h# y) U$ B/ T& Eimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
( z. ?4 z! e, G( N7 p9 joperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
/ f9 I4 \7 ?7 Q. m6 uThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and y; B+ `& m6 u2 T4 m9 _# G
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should; o' R, m; z! p# s
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership0 T8 o# e3 N3 {+ O. V! u. ~* _
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and( Z2 _4 `: O" n* i: N# T* a+ \; A
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
! n1 s' r) k, M8 c, N, D7 Odirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
# _6 z8 A' V" S' estatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
2 @" ~0 a$ l: r9 Lmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
, R7 y! j: d! D$ R3 Gdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
. d; I# O* h! Y/ Npolicies already adopted

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
