The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic ) h+ h' P0 ^1 F/ \- L
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead # F' n- i* m8 B# Q5 z$ O2 e
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA ; P7 _/ c$ A/ K" r: g2 G- p- c/ m% f
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and & P) J" ?9 J8 \0 k+ b& g7 v5 k8 ^! E
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA & O+ g, I: A1 {& e
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the 2 P; I8 ~% E( [

7 O. X# j& N8 ?; `Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 7 Y! d' p9 y& f* Z
execution of the YWCA Strategy
' q3 H& K! r& B% K3 I5 F # ^" ]# ]+ k9 q1 L: u
Specific responsibilities include:  # \6 W! t( S' R" C. Y5 {
/ A/ \0 j2 X* r- M
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
1 l& K/ u0 P5 U/ l, z: Zthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 3 I# u& ^! P) e: i) j2 h
the Board of Directors;  
: B0 V1 D4 A& X: z•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 4 t* l: w% ~8 O2 U( r9 Z
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
' @- U" X8 w' [) }5 O9 X; R% V( Penable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; . x) ^6 c2 F6 X3 ~
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and ( \, c7 |8 F1 [
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
5 n6 o1 o6 t4 n  \: q2 A' Vthe board;  
6 X  J7 X" b# H7 I$ _•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  4 q1 t4 S4 p" h1 h: o2 W
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 7 S4 l/ V; @0 B2 e
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ) f6 J8 W; ]7 x7 t
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 7 U* @$ s; K8 r/ \9 N7 ~
changing needs of the organization and community;
8 T9 y% U0 N/ b7 h; t' ~3 |" x; S! o: I•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ; a9 N) x9 X- V" \. j
commitments;
* W; J; w" U2 ^  r; f•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  2 t/ q4 T& ]& ^8 z
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective ( N2 J2 [; g5 I+ n, c+ f
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
1 D5 U- `2 Q: ]3 V+ E0 |/ V7 J% T•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ; O; \3 D/ c% S& v" @4 I/ H: d
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to   s5 F% _# E( N  Q/ X6 i4 W
effectively and positively represent the association; 8 w4 [) O3 A" m, r2 I) v8 ]% X6 n

3 l% {, ^6 X" ?( c•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring # X* }$ N6 p) w6 t/ S1 U8 s2 ^  \
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  " |8 p+ f" G2 j
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 7 E3 |, U* j2 `0 o; I5 n
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
6 ~0 ~6 ^* l, @% m. E2 j4 k+ a  h! Wthe forthcoming year;  
7 X/ w, v. q3 @3 C. \$ f( s- J•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical   U4 T3 l) y, i0 I
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
/ W. T  K! t8 D& \' Z+ sYWCA Canada; and * e8 B3 \. S' V8 R% |
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 9 ^% s9 ~) h) c7 ?4 P

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
/ Z9 n8 M: N: v1 [, L•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
9 u4 T/ Q0 A/ Uaround decisions, plans and actions; 8 |' b+ }. P+ \# e( ]
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; " N& x# b% ]$ N- i" O
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable & q2 `. {) O$ f9 J& D- M
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
1 }7 g4 Q0 d% H$ j•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks + b2 M3 g3 `) o( F. \. c
simultaneously;   U. i  a8 S8 o7 d
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build ( z9 f% r$ @( K- G- U1 E
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; ! b4 F3 k, M0 ]3 A
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and + ~: J, M5 K0 H/ Z  [6 J: L2 q6 f- }
•  Superior negotiation skills.

7 }9 l7 r3 ]& j5 P6 y; H# g•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
" p" E* A" I5 m4 ]& M; ^! I ( U2 V0 {( R/ G
Required Experience
$ l5 L6 P5 l+ \* ^•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
; s3 Y; n/ ~0 W, p•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
/ f- a" X. [; @' x9 `/ Oabilities; . @) X* n6 p& z9 X9 x, r
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 3 v8 y. B& X+ w9 t6 W- w- r' M" c, H
Networking and Fundraising; 1 a' c. c2 f  S% f* W$ _
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting ) D4 c7 U* s1 x! d7 A8 u+ e
and financial statements; and 2 `" m: i8 C' s/ p4 l  V
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women - c# L  ?* L6 J
centered perspective. * o  M6 Z3 \* p5 W& m& {
