5 h+ u4 \) A) m" E( Ythis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
6 o# D( t6 P: Q  E+ VEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and , Q$ Z& a8 _9 D
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

2 r9 G( y* T4 i9 i$ N! jReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
- d# |8 s/ ^7 M! N7 ]2 H$ a2 uexecution of the YWCA Strategy 5 F3 H4 K% Z/ _8 T5 k
0 k. b% w' {8 c% U
Specific responsibilities include:  
3 J5 K7 t" V  X/ t- I2 j
' T/ t+ c+ h2 W  {, U•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 7 R5 ~$ x! Q# g7 n* F7 C0 _1 ]- h
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
( J6 z2 A& U' [7 K$ I! v6 Ithe Board of Directors;  0 l( }( z5 ~3 _* k
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations . F  O, n6 r( K( q
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
! k6 ?* o+ c; C1 Zenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 0 E7 N, e9 \0 K
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
  e/ I! h2 t4 F* |objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
/ M- l9 a* q4 x; ~; ^the board;  
( s0 V1 q9 I7 W, T4 U  g•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
9 H7 m. i7 o8 s: Z•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ; p, o& ]' a( U
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
* _" S* |; l- M& r: T•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
* L8 a: ]) a( q0 W: c7 G  j6 M% Qchanging needs of the organization and community;
. m. U  W4 e  ]! t, v  M' z•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 1 `, ?. S2 P; @8 H: k6 Z, _5 i. \
commitments;
& F) Z; X$ a$ T, E5 a9 ?% ?8 K) b•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  3 q, J7 D: a- d5 @# P* ~
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective % y# i7 u0 a: _% o7 [
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  ; S; e. Y6 j2 i: a7 G
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
) l( K, L& m4 T•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
" R$ s3 ?: C( E0 Ueffectively and positively represent the association;
: a) m# Q1 |, `4 x( T2 a- ~& h4 H' d, _1 ?" I7 m- R7 [: W
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
" k( a3 v1 c# T# Zthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  & S+ w% s, D5 p
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
% M$ m2 O; D+ Z3 ]( Vperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED / N  N' b' U! l) M/ p& J/ j
the forthcoming year;  3 y* A$ b( Q0 E, @+ L; ?: M
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 3 J! B' \1 H3 d! K
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of " ~3 y+ f, D0 m" A+ \  t
YWCA Canada; and
, g. b8 Z# F% d: o" c' f•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
* V; ?. `4 P2 {•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus * w3 Q6 w. F) ^& b, D
around decisions, plans and actions; * z* E$ U8 t. O( k, q) D- {
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
' W% u4 b$ D" P•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 3 e# E0 m( ~0 \6 S6 @1 ~
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
4 u; e- B5 n4 I* ?5 v: d" L•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks + z+ X' [& A- O4 a5 c+ Q, q0 N
simultaneously; ! `6 Q, o: ~; l- \' R. I- }
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
( X& U8 ?! W! a. p& t9 jrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
8 ]6 `% j# x5 e•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification 3 ~8 |# G% L" @8 C
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. ) S$ q" h7 l- P1 \% {2 Q0 M% I) E7 a

Required Experience
5 a* w) S( X, ]1 \; w& U1 s•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
) Q7 c& G1 K. O5 Z& I$ m3 Q•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
! X6 N- r/ H+ s; [4 A, n$ ~abilities;
& ]7 R6 W+ t  Y% V•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
) A, Y. n6 Z: l# l6 dNetworking and Fundraising; ( @3 A1 Y8 U$ O  [7 g4 m, K4 w( r
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting + a# w& c1 N* f! Q* K, Y/ L& ^
and financial statements; and
6 G! P2 c- T  I9 E•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
( `/ x* y8 R, H, I$ a8 c$ _& e9 rcentered perspective. 8 L+ y" H' k  I
