months. There are three wars going on in Gaza, Iraq and Afghandistan. # s5 B; T# J, m. M
A year ago these things would have spiked the price of crude oil by at 1 q% q& A# t. x5 f" P. J9 C, j
least $50.00 per barrel. Today, oil price declined by a record amount. + [5 h1 w' T+ e/ g; S& V

0 Q* W) }1 x, z1 f3 n2 { z SThere are several reasons the price of oil is decreasing in the face 4 P; f1 x- x2 N9 r
of so much news. These reasons are:

1. New oil has been found in Canada, Montana, North & South Dakota and
. Q9 t2 ]) {8 E, J$ G5 Ein the ocean near Brazil. Each of these oil fields has more oil than

; o. w5 R F; ?, G& a- V$ S. O3 Q
8 ?4 h# u9 W( l3 D2. New natural gas has been found in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

racing to produce bio fuels.

5. Virtually every restaurant in the US and all food processing plants $ v7 G( s- e& P+ j1 f

cattle, turkey and chicken processing plant will soon sell their fat
" |. L- K: ^& a) g z/ {to bio-diesel producers. One pork processing plant in Oklahoma is

6. There are 99 nuclear reactors in various stages of planning and 7 B) a4 X$ _9 B2 {5 q" z% c; a

expected to be built in the future. Much of the energy they produce $ S; V" C0 Y; A. c. Y; Z8 ?
will replace oil.

with new more fuel efficient equipment. Airlines and railway companies q8 k, j3 b* S" Z- ]
are experiencing 20% to 25% better fuel econony with the new
; `, k7 M; J( `* gequipment.

Airlines are flying airplanes with bio-fuel. They are finding the bio-

7 S7 I4 q+ P/ U- Y8. Cities and counties throughout the US are selling the rights to
) d ?' m& [ ?5 _3 E8 Ccapture methane gas from landfills. This is a huge source of gas 5 j' w1 y$ Q7 C3 H1 Q, O% a( P
available at very little cost or risk. The gas is displacing crude
: w3 }+ a M! H7 ?; o e! Yoil.

9. Coal is being transformed into a clean burning liquid fuel. The CO2 - l ?+ w& j. ]3 y
produced as a byproduct is sold to oil companies for injection into : s% n, |, R4 ?
oil wells.

10. Solar, wind and ocean energy is displacing oil as an energy / @- P$ ^& x3 h
source. Three new wind turbines are being erected every day in the US.

Each of the above by itself will not make a large difference in the & R& G/ y$ R+ W- ]8 u6 e
price of crude oil but the sum of all of them together is world ! O6 Z3 h; O6 @7 R7 M9 s
changing. The important thing is that OPEC no longer has the ability
) u$ K9 |5 H& N7 R4 Sto control oil prices.
