Duties

* Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
3 i( x/ u4 V# ]4 w! m5 h7 p1 H2 } * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group! |' K) z+ K& j* ~3 ]+ N$ [# u
* Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
9 f& E1 H' V5 t) y/ ^7 g * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
5 Z$ l9 N! t2 t) @( q * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director Y; ~0 A$ J9 |
* Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses) Z. X& [& X$ h* w' S
* Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth" V/ [% ?2 o5 U" I) q
* Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
: w" ?8 `9 w& e" R% L( k- i * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment4 G, v! w1 L* @6 N1 v; g
* Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
7 \* K/ p1 S4 Q * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs1 R% D0 F6 a" A; |3 @
* Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly3 w" ^1 t; _+ x* a# W: J' X+ F
* Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities; z9 J F/ m5 K: e. n9 e9 H% r1 _
* Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools/ H) j, Q' o1 a% Q' s1 o

* Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
0 _& z5 S- _" J. z8 g * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
9 T T) K5 t4 T7 f% V. B7 k2 d * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies$ H6 x! J& I$ l
* Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs6 K7 x I5 v# J8 e$ w* i. i
* Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community* k. s% I! j3 ]& V& V
* Fundraising skills an asset
- _& m. W+ i8 ~$ G * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
