As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.

% G# g- R, e" |9 j3 m5 oReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:2 J4 O& W6 q5 \; \1 v# z/ u, |9 E* q
• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
# z8 l! @5 \; ]1 q" [- u• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements1 ]! k$ b R% m2 A' N) h# k
• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module

• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers ( w) s; A- ~ ?2 J( D
Job Requirements: h3 O; Y' v+ e0 @+ F+ D
• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline, h9 y; u* H0 Z- B6 m* D, b" ^( B
• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
- Z* z$ l+ d! A; h; G0 s3 M5 F• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
2 ?( u- R$ E$ a1 r• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
- C/ W" v5 z: v# I& Y• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
& X" o! L: ]. C; w0 q• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies. C2 ~0 o0 i1 Q! |2 k
• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
" ~1 {3 c$ M8 P& Z \" b• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
" ~; @% ^ B9 PHours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. : S5 J$ J$ ^* J: W- C: p
Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.
