This is a temporary position for approximately 11 months.  Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada at the time of their application.6 O, P* X2 ]( s% }

  \+ N$ ^, m- A$ hAs part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. ; o& J2 Z' F0 d' D  b6 c9 P+ v! o
  h4 P" H$ g: ^$ i# p0 g
Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:: A. R, S0 x) |: E
•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
) g* W2 \7 ~4 Z- ?% H1 r  H•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
, U/ c+ @% R7 L) j% c: ~. N, n•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module3 ]/ p3 |0 i7 r. ~( a: \
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
0 T: n( D3 |8 I2 t( m( A•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers ( X+ \! Y0 H) o
Job Requirements:  ' r. B! R3 O0 h! g6 O. `' h
•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline# n  x5 u- E5 l" [: c/ Q
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset2 V! a9 V0 K  ^
•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience; ?# [! W# y* ]" t
•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems& Z" l# q" `% G" z
•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets3 A7 h- c* {+ W, ^/ Q/ N; m
•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies( k0 o2 y! `! I$ `; \4 o! \! _
•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST# a! O0 L9 N1 O1 y" u
•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills* I( H. o, u8 Y# d( W  r9 X
Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
