bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based/ q! Q( ^8 g. c) x
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day o u$ g3 e) ` Z
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
0 H0 ~5 Q, x' } W) p3 N K% Bstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
. Q; a) E& ^* w2 \2 E2 {3 uYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our6 L# Y& t6 y) t. K$ S1 A9 U
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
0 ?/ o- S2 P, I4 t* t+ Gconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
) ^8 j! _ e- Q5 h k" UVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills8 U# A9 s- A* `; F
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
7 q+ f+ k* ^, a4 {/ h2 z, @- B( Dyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose) K+ o9 W2 |+ o4 j, P. [6 `5 ^
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment* [) ~; X8 l# f$ f' \; Z# E
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and) ^. |) S6 V, w6 j$ @
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and, Q1 H. ~$ [ H0 a% v* R* R
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
/ M% \0 ]1 ~% {' v1 u* Q) I5 f: }4 x6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.! t5 C. F8 E8 H9 U, g( W1 y2 d
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central2 D* z/ ]( ^( ?( d
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta./ o6 j, R4 i5 g: h: t
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of" I6 x" A, C! a0 {

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
% Q! q" l/ A# s/ k' l8 a• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
( t) s, g3 A0 q( W8 O6 bcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
! d1 p0 L0 N o( u5 i1 \willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities' i# v; D% M3 z( V3 f
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as4 z# t' X8 W* e9 {
being realistic to each youth participant
' s( E6 {3 j2 J) ~# T• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
! I) u! K6 W5 D/ O7 n* U4 h& {& B* Z6 nyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
$ \4 p% d' k1 J( X6 i5 f; {each participant
+ f1 R* p/ H& y5 V• Assist youth with employment development including the development of$ Y w- I* a! T- x0 X0 T& g. R( \; R- n
cover letters and resumes etc.: z2 t: |8 y N: c( T
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
0 |+ r0 A @; ~' P5 s+ W% @experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
6 t6 V# u% O! t' `# T- Aplacements
7 E( V: [! o( k9 m/ N( L& ~. K! X• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
7 u; b' K0 Y9 a; r) ]the process, and supporting the youth where needed% W/ G6 W# R! b# t* K/ s6 _
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
( C# o& u# j4 Y& H$ xis being fulfilled for each youth/ f4 D# v7 R. d
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
: u4 n% {) U; i+ q* \* k) Urelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
3 T* \4 w) l0 l% y3 Z; O0 f" u• Other tasks as they arise within the position
5 \2 }" }4 @" q! DExperience Required: Employment Developer
( E2 \8 Y! d8 c8 T Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted# Z8 X& U% `( D% m; h2 B; e' L
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
: D& a8 }0 X% V6 \ K/ H( o Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed

 Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth

at risk as it pertains to employment
