The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will8 K$ m8 J) b8 h
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based. T' o( @ Y: N
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
: }% V v0 l/ I0 ]5 r! pprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that# T" N! w$ ~8 G+ g" \& F+ I
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
9 ?4 x7 S6 s2 }& s+ fYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
/ |+ ]6 L' x0 ^5 t gmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve7 f* w% t' f' `4 P; |" k% J$ ]' O( h
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the7 f+ ^) b2 A$ r5 h" T* d! l' m; A
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
1 K( Z2 x0 z" W" a+ Nnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
, M6 V2 I" O8 P: qyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose4 g9 e, q {# X( H8 X
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment5 j. G7 ?/ ^% |% J2 e. u. }
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
2 U1 S6 ]9 m3 wexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and# L& A3 z; f$ ^+ {& O
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a, V( p& B$ i8 q5 {; k/ p# V
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
$ F* E1 H( H* f U+ ZThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central. a( B: N6 U/ l" N
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.7 t" G& G7 I u. [
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
- n: Y0 [# z6 b5 {• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the! P' a) k/ O" U0 a" k+ q
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
: R' c5 c4 z7 v9 @1 B |willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities4 I8 |9 l) I. L n$ s
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
+ _( c& ~! E7 T/ W! \7 ~9 Pbeing realistic to each youth participant2 b, v* O0 A1 h
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the8 M/ i- ]9 i0 L. b
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
}: ?) h @- _* Z/ O0 Y: beach participant4 x% @9 z0 i3 C
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
3 e: @7 _& O, e( R6 scover letters and resumes etc.+ Q$ y: |! P1 I7 u7 K6 y
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
) A0 n: f6 x' v) f3 qexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the0 r4 L9 Q7 m6 A* o4 i. [) t' y
placements
6 q! X- L& D, a! x• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
& L3 }7 I/ X; {0 G$ W4 `/ a, Z. R9 Ythe process, and supporting the youth where needed) y( m$ V& D1 M( ]( _. Y
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach: `+ T# K/ N! |6 d- V7 u, K! {: m& g
is being fulfilled for each youth. }& K0 e$ X6 y
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
, ?$ w; R0 @7 Z, Crelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

: H# D- B( x1 n3 R Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
